Renault Laguna coupe 2.0 dci - thoughts?

My girlfriend is after a new car, and after the going through the boring typical none PH cars we'd settled on the 1.4 Astra SRI 11/12 plate circa £10k.
I'd shown her the lambo's of the mundane world (Alfa Romeo)and she really liked the mito cloverleaf but felt the performance of it was lost on her and she'd resent the extra fuel, insurance costs etc. of a hot hatch sort of car.
As we were walking around the car supermarket, a stunning looking car I hadn't thought about appeared into view - a 2.0dci 2011 Renault Laguna Coupe in grey. I'd always loved these cars and thought there was more than a whiff of aston martin in the styling, especially the rear 3/4.
My girlfriend instantly loved it but was scared of the Renault badge - is she right to do so?
Does anybody have any first hand experience of the coupe or even saloon, or the 2.0dci Renault engine? is it a fairly robust power plant?

It went. Sort of slowly as I was relatively gutless. Haven't driven a turbo Laguna as we had a 1.8 Dynamique. Or rather swmbo did as she bought it.
I hated everything about it. The cheap s

I love the look of these in black or white. I sort of suspected they would be disappointing as the Laguna 3 was a disaster, Renault even admitted it was released before a proper test and development process was completed.

It was a purely personal point of view.
Drive it, check it out & if you like it then buy it. We all have different feelings for cars so just because I hated ours don't let it cloud your judgement.
Many people don't like the X-Type I have got. I do so that's all that matters.

I thought the Laguna 3 was pretty good, it just couldn't shake the Laguna II's terrible reputation. I love the look of these in black or white. As I mistakenly said and Perd corrected, 2 was the disaster and 3 is supposed to be a much improved car.

Would you every want to test that theory with your own money though? I often see the coupes around and think they are good looking cars mind you. I'd take a punt for £2k maybe, but £11k means you're committed to pay whatever ball smashing bills it throws at you.dme123 said:

Plenty of cars ready to rape the wallet of a private buyer, often supposed superior choices.
I can't comment on the coupe version....but I've been running the GT spec Estate of the 2.0dci for the last 2 years.
My impression of the series 3 Laguna is that it was a big step forward over the rather problem prone series 2 (which I had previously). Trim and equipment in mine make it an easy car for eating up the motorway miles with comfortable seats and enough toys to keep you amused.
If you are looking for something to just to short, stop/start journeys be aware that if it's the version with the FAP then this really doesn't like that kind of motoring as it tends to clog up the filter...giving you the warning light on the dash and then means you having to go for a bit of a run to clear it out.

I have had 3 Laguna coupes - 1 diesel and 2 turbo petrol ones - covering over 30k miles in total.
They are comfy, economical and look great.
There are no issues with reliability on them, the problems were with the previous generation Laguna. In fact IIRC they come pretty high up in the reliability stakes.

More on topic, meant to say that I have this engine in my car and it seems excellent, revs happily for a diesel and is reasonably efficient.
Only bad points I've heard about this engine is that injectors can be hard (read almost impossible) to remove but this seem to be more in relation to Trafic/Vivaro vans than cars.

We looked at a Giulietta same time as a Mito and she did like it, but it was £13k and after a quick look on the classifieds the non boggo spec cars still seems slightly out of reach, those at £11k have tiny alloys and look a bit poo IMHO, massive difference with the sportier looking models.
A5 09 I will look into, she isnt really bothered about the Audi badge though so I think she'd prefer a newer car than an older car with a 'better' badge.
Ideally she'd like an astra with leather + sat nav but it looks like they are a hard find!
