Tyre recommendation
Discussion
I have a manual 2004 vauxhall monaro, and im looking into getting some better tyres to help my 60ft for general rwyb's
Currently doing just over 2 seconds on street tyres
Would i be better off going for 15 or 16" drag radials on the back with standard 18" wheels up front,
slicks on the back with normal 18" wheels up front or
slicks and skinnies?
Also what brand tyres?
I have tried some 18" mickey thompsons but they helped a little but not a huge amount
thank you

The Mickeys I have in the back have significantly helped with traction on the street. On my street tires, I ran 2.0 60fts at Santa Pod. We will be at the stip this weekend testing the drag radials. I would think a 15" tire with good sidewall will help along with skinnies up front. You will save some weight along the process too!

Depends up until the end of last year I was running all round 235/50/18 (Toyo T1 Sports fyi) and seeing mid 2.1s 60ft times (at York) on my 06 Mustang GT.
This year I am running a set of 245/40/R18 Mickey Thomson ET Street Radial II’s and the difference is more than noticeable, my PB has dropped from 13.59 to 13.33 at York, I am now getting flat 2.0s or high 1.9s 60ft times. Also be aware I have a set of prop loops on there too adding more weight over last years times. I have a current PB of 13.42 at SPR from the Dial In Day at the weekend (the new track is superb btw!). The tyres were pricey (had the exchange rate to thank for that) but they are very good and well worth the money, I got them via Lee at LA Racing Parts.
Hi Matthew!
I was running 2.5 second 60ft times all day it seems, but I always was spinning off the line. I was reading on a website how the BF Goodrich tyres that I have fitted don't really appreciate being put through a burn out and may actually cause them to be worse, instead just a quick hazing them up is better. All the same I'm now looking for a set of rear wheels and tyres like the MT ET tyres.

I knocked 3 tenths off my 60 foots from Toyo T1Rs to Toyo R888's then another tenth with MT street radials but I know there is more to be had from the tyre.
Ive found that softening the front shox helps weight transfer and i run 3 ways in the rear. Hard setting on bump and low speed damping and soft on the rebound. I ran a 1.70 at the Pod and 1.81 at a very cold York 2 weeks ago.
So I can recommend the 888's for a good improvement over normal street rubber and you can drive home on them and corner hard also. The MTs are designed for the track and can be quite a handful on the cruise to the local pub.
