Hi,

As per title. The old seemed to be covered in silicon sealant, it was everywhere.

So far I have just used a fibre seal washer.

Should I redo with silicon sealant ? If so, down the thread or just around washer ?

Thanks

Zach

PTFE (plumber's)tape around the threads.

I was told not to use PTFE as it can affect the electrical continuity between the sender and the block - depends whether the sender uses the block as a ground or not...

If it has a parallel thread (screws in easy till hits washer) the seal should be made by the washer and if in good order (ideally new) no sealant should be necessary. Don't over tighten, you'll just chew the washer up.

Taper threads (tighten as they go in) should be sealed with PTFE tape or liquid thread seal. The sender should "bite through" the tape enough to still make electrical circuit.

Just my opinion smile

It was a DBC3728 which I put in - looked the same as the old one (which was quite shiny too) finger tight to washer - just got second thoughts - and with such a good resource here I'd be daft not to ask.

I'm not a fan of using thread lock or peelable sealant in hot places - or places where it could drop into fluids - even 'simple' cooling fluids. Hence me going with a fibre seal..

I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens - switch to something else if this goes pop. In theory if it starts leaking badly - where it's located I should see and smell green steam before worse things occur!
