Do you really need one
Can't say I've ever even seen one, don't they look a bit like a draft excluder, you could see what B&Q have to offer
Does anyone have a picture of one, I'd like to know what I've been missing the last 5 years

nope, but then I didnt really need a microwave either. or a TVR at all come to think of it....

For £14 or whatever they cost I want to give it a whirl and see if it does make any difference at high speed now I have the suspension sorted.

ok, just to bring this one to the top. Fitted the splitter last weekend. As per Steve Heaths suggestion I fitted it using rivets rather than self tappers. Put it as far forward as possible but still not too visible as the shape of the car "rounds off" so it has to be far enough towards the wheels to sit flat on the bodywork. Did a few runs afterwards at 100+ although no silly speeds as I had a close call with an unmarked Bib car on the way to fit the thing and it sppoked me for a day or so...

But, first impressions are...

no difference to the engine temperature (which is a good thing in my case as I had reduced that vastly with the leven cooling kit and the front number plate.

seems to be more planted at speed. Not a huge difference, but I noticed it. Psychological maybe to some extent, but I am sure it felt more comfortable at high(ish) speed than it did before.

Next step is the corner splitters in front of the wheels. Not so easy to rivet from a pit so thinking how I can get a drill far enough under each corner?! My axle stands unlikely to be high enough.

1. Placebo effect?
2. Angle drill needed!

I think the splitter only contributes to cooling if you have the extra holes in the undertray behind the grill. It stops the air falling out of these holes & forces more air in.

Are you sure these extra holes are not the slots used to allow air through the optional oil cooler?

The slots however seem to be standard on all later cars, very few of which have oil coolers!

Where did u get it from in the end or was it self made?
Battery Drill should be small enough to get under the car wheen on axles stands, or maybe try some ramps. Come to think of it you should be able to use a Bradle to push a hole in the Fibre glass, Dont Hit it put keep turning it should do the job.
Did you but these Splitters too, Be interested to see some pics Shnozz.

aha - mines an earlier car and there was no "extra holes" - in fact very few holes at all other than what looks like a drainage hole presumably underneath the rad..

I got it via TMS/TVR gear. To be honest, it would be hard to make one but it was just easier to order one for £14 whilst I needed to get a new headlight lens.

Wouldnt fancy the bradle technique. With a powerful electric drill it was taking plenty enough time to drill through the fibreglass so with a bradle it would take an age. Might give a battery operated drill a go but mine isnt much shorter than the decent electric one (which I would far rather use as the speed generallly means a cleaner hole ())

I want to use rivets on the corner splitters too so as to avoid any bodywork damage if they catch on a speed hump etc. Havent sourced any yet and going to just have to take my chances and buy a set intended for any sort of escort/astra/saxo etc. Halfords had a set at half price the other week for an old escort. I should have had them to be honest but wanted to fit the full width splitter first to see how much room was left. I have a few mates in the car modifying scene and may see if they can get me some on the cheap. I will be leaving them unpainted in black to hopefully mean they cannot be seen too easily, although if they are, I will have to try and make it a slight feature.

Fitted one to my Griffith 4.0 Pre-cat. Sprayed the splitter the same colour as the car. I think it helps keep the Temp. down when on the move! Rarely temperature goes over 85deg. Cost about £14, I fitted it with stainless s/tapping screws.

I noticed no difference on the chim, but my rad is at a totally different angle and the grille is in front of where the splitter is positionned. I would guess that is the key factor.

In a discussion about aerodynamics on a thread we hijacked (sorry) we decided the splitter would help the cooling on the Griff much more than the Chim because of the angle of the rad.

Any pics Phil?

Hmmm, maybe I could fit one to the S?

Then in winter I could bolt a snow plough to it
