I am looking for a Cayenne for the wife and have a budget of up to £12k
I love the engine in the R32 and 3.2 Audi TT is the 3.2 engine in the Cayenne the same ? will it have the low down grunt and that v6 engine roar?
I am aware of the weakness in the 4.5 engines bore score and coolant pipes etc. would the 3.2 be the safer bet? Or should I look out for a fully sorted 4.5 or even a turbo?

The general advice seems to be to go for a Turbo. The 3.2 offers significantly less grunt than the 4.5 for very similat fuel economy and the Turbo engine does not have the weaknesses of the standard 4.5.

Probably a bit of man maths required to bridge the gap as the fuel economy on the Turbo does seem to be a fair bit less than the 3.2!

How many miles will you do in it?

For me it was turbo all the way. Awesome performance and similar running costs to the v6 and 4.5S.

Short journeys aren't great for fuel economy though, I'm getting 18-19mpg avg. Mixed commute M25 M4 and A406.

They are very good cars, aim for a 05 model year so Sept 04 onwards as lots of electrical gremlins ironed out by this stage.

Check coolant pipes, drive shaft cardan shaft, rear hatch gas struts, horn (high/low) and make sure all sat nav phone and auto changer features work.

I am not sure 18-19 is too bad. I get that around town on my Boxster S, but it probably goes up to more like 23 on the commute you do. The only difference is I could get 30+ by cruising on the motorway at a fixed 70mph which probably wouldn't be possible with the Cayenne, but how often does that happen in the real world?

05 seems to be the sweet spot because later cars will attract the higher tax bill as well.

My 4.5 gets used mostly for short journeys (work is less than 10 miles away) with the odd longer run (100 miles each way) thrown in. I chuck Tesco 99 in, and if the light has come on it typically costs me about £115 to fill up.

If I've done only short journeys, I will get around 250 miles out of a tank.

If I've included a long journey I'll get around 300 miles from a tank.

On the long journeys, the display is telling me I'd comfortably get 400+ miles if I just sat on the motorway, maybe even 500 if I was lucky, but I've not had a chance to try that yet.

Personally, I wouldn't want a 3.2. My 4.5 is quick enough to be fun, but 100bhp less wouldn't be. I've said it before, but the comparison of turbo vs V8 4.5 seems slightly odd when people only quote mpg as the significant point. I didn't want a turbo for the simple reason I didn't want to spend the additional capital buying one. Even if I'd upped my budget, I'm still not sure I would choose a turbo over a newer S for the same money. But it's all personal choice.

Petrol not that different between them.

Also car is too tall, too wide/long, too heavy, to hoon in.

So my advice is to go for the best example you can find.

They are great cars, can't believe how relaxed I am when I get somewhere. I just bought through 911V again unseensmile Cayenne S, FPSH, P warranty, Coolant Pipes changed, Recent Major Service with I believe almost every optioncool

That's the way to do it. Was it the silver one with the black stickers down the sides?

Hi, yes now minus stickers which was oem item. Forgot to mention Michelin N rated tyres and brakes were also done a year ago. Interesting for me was the tequipment ipod connector which I hadn't seen on that model cayenne before.

Haven't noticed it being much worse compared to my 911, as its not the type of car you want to drive fast.

I couldn't live with 11.9.

Mine currently seems to average about 17 - mostly short journeys but with the odd long one thrown in.

My mpg improved noticeably after 9E gave it a decent service.
