I am in the process of upgrading the audio on my Mk1. Any recommendations on straight swap for the rear speakers? I also plan on putting in some front tweeters and a "under seat" sub, again any recommendations? I have just bought a parrot asteroid classic to replace my head unit, anyone had any experience of this unit?

The rear speakers are too small to produce a decent sound. I recommend putting in a piece of MDF under the rear screen so that you can put some decent speakers in.
I also added some tweeters on top of the dash to get a more forward focussed sound field. Works great.

Not sure if this is of interest but I've just purchased a Tuscan which comes with a factory fitted hi fi that apparently cost £4k in 2000, so it must sound amazing. Since the Gemini speakers, positioned just inside the wheel arches against the boot bulkhead and what ever is in under a cental box take up all the rear shelf at low level I actually want to remove it all - that's where the dog is going!!

Here's the spec I've received from the dealer.

Pioneer KEH-P9700R head unit
Gemini Stereo 100 speakers
Pioneer CDX-P650 stack unit
Pioneer CEX-P900 DAB unit
and whatever's underneath that box on the rear shelf - presumably Pioneer?

If I can salvage some of it I will, and I will know more when I take delivery of the car and take to my local in car hifi specialist next week. I may however sell the whole system and start again. Let me know if you might be interested. I'm in Brighton.

Hi

To be very honest most of the stuff you have is very much outdated now.
The DAB module will stop working when the switch over happens as everything is going to DAB+ now which is a completely different signal.
As for the CD changer every one has basically stopped making these now as everything is built to work with iPods and USB devices and no stereos have a CD changer input, the only people that makes them still is Alpine which is to add on to a original system or if anyone has old stock laying about.
The Gemini speakers at the time was very good but i don't even think is available now as i have not seen or heard of for years

I would recommend just to scrap the lot and start again if you was planning to do anything

Update. I have sourced some 4 inch 2 way component speakers with passive crossovers. Going to put tweeters under the dash and use the original location 4 inch for the mids. I will be putting a sub in the passenger footwell. The head unit is in, just driving the original pioneer coaxials at the moment. Loving the parrot asteroid head unit. The Internet radio especially makes up for the usually poor radio reception. I will post some pics of the install when I get time to fit the speakers and sub.

You need to check if it works on both DAB and DAB+, If its just DAB then yes you will find once the switch over is complete if wont work correctly, If its DAB+ as well it will auto switch itself to work on the new frequency.
Basically the European market operates on DAB+ and that's why we are changing to it

It certainly does, nice job. I'll pop along to my local ICE guys and see what they can come up with, maybe incorporating some additional carpentry - don't you just love MDF! Happy listening.
Cheers.
