I was just filling up the car with fuel and thought what the hell is that on the back of my seat?

I can only assume a cigi burn, but goes right under the headrest, and onto the seat.

Baffled me - i've not smoked in it for years and judging by the angle of the seat its as if someones tried to burn it?

Its getting a retrim this year... but this is very strange! I'm Pissed off, but thinking i could have lost the whole car, I didn't smell any burning whilst driving over a week ago.

My only thought is when I stayed up north i didn't lock it and a little st next door to my mums place has tried to have a go?

The pics just don't add up?

Something on the back parcel shelf, glass or clear plastic has magnified the suns rays and lazered the back of the seat as the suns position has moved!

No idea but hell that's not good - it looks like there were actual flames, for a short while at least, as there are vertical scorch marks too.
Seems you were very lucky!

That is bizarre! Can't imagine someone would go to the trouble of reaching into the car to do that. Then again, you do get some jealous people out there. My money's also on something behind the seat magnifying the sun's rays, which is worrying!

I've got similar on my front seat & side of the centre console. Not as severe & not as big,but burn marks nonetheless.

They were there when I bought the car but they don't make sense as they are nothing like cigarette burns.

Maybe they are prone to magnifying the suns rays.

Yours look way way more serious than mine though.

Our car was with us out in Cyprus for many years and would often be left parked in the blazing sun with no such consequences. Looks deliberate.Blowtorch?

That is the most bizarre thing. Perhaps worth a post in general gassing to a wider audience to see if anyone else has suffered a similar fate. As others have said, it looks pretty serious.

That would be on the bit you sit on. biggrin

Strange, never seen anything like it. Mindless tts vandalise. A big scratch down the outside is easier and much more likely IMO.

You haven't had a battery charger " optimate" plugged in through the window whilst the car has been garaged have you?
If there was some sort of short circuit could the wire have overheated and done that? Either that or aliens.

Have you had any work done recently? I'm thinking a cable of some sort taking power into your car overheated and did that.

Or, didn't you have some paintwork done recently? Infra red lamp to dry the paint? Rear end wasn't it?
This is getting to be like a CSI episode.

My guess is this. My Mum nearly set fire to a TV on the other side of her bedroom with an ill placed make up mirror.

Too random a place to burn for some to have done that deliberately, IMO.

I know of a house that was completely burnt out when it was identified that a make-up mirror had been left at exactly the right angle
to cause a fire from the sun's rays. In your case I'd say this was deliberate - looks like someone reached in with a lighter and once it caught
legged it. Thankfully leather doesn't burn very well so probably extinguished itself before headlining etc caught.

Is the seat back as well as head rest burnt? Looks like a 'follow the sun' burn from something reflecting or magnifying sunlight into the car.

Can't be a sun burn at this time of the year can it? Seems in a strange place for vandalism as you would have to have access to the car and reach in. Real strange one that.

+1 for mirror - the angle of the burn looks like maybe something on the back seat as it's done the underside of the head rest.
