Is there really a USS Ponce? Not a great name IMHO.

Does the word "Ponce" have the same connotation in the US as it does in British English ?

Our US cousins must have loved HMS Beaver.

Thanks re: the wikipedia post, I recall when I visited St Augustine in Florida lots of talk of this Ponce de Leon character, it all makes sense now.
