New cayman S is out of my budget. That means a choice of new Cayman or a young Cayman S gen 2

Which one?

Old S would be my choice. "Motortrend best drivers car" winner.

I wish they were 20k cheaper . They are roughly the same price
45k for a good spec 981 abd about 40k for a good spec gen2 987, unless I go for an older one.

Thought about an R, but spec not so good.

So you ruled out 996 / 997 Turbo then biggrin

Given this choice (and because of your reason for changing in the first place), I would go with the latter.

Or....save a bit longer and get the R because as soon as you change, you will lose money. Hence always best to wait and get what you really want first time around IMO (within reason of course....I really want a GT3 RS 4.0 but would have to wait rest of my life to get one of these !!).

Can someone please tell me about the R. I know its lighter, and that the later models have A/C, but are all the luxuaries removed.

I was in the same quandry , new Cayman S or the reduced price old shape R. I went for old shape R and will put the £20k saving in the bank for petrol , trackdays and holidays ;-)

It's a Cayman, turned up to 11 biggrin

In its purest form, yes...all the luxuries would be removed. But for practicality reasons, some people added them back as extras. Stunning car though don't you think ?? Definitely worth waiting that bit extra for IMO...

I tried to buy a CR but prices in Germany are too high now. I have to wait for cheaper cars to appear or buy something else.

My Cayman R has sat nav, climate, sports chrono, carbon bucket seats, sound plus system, pdk, parking sensors. pretty good spec and just sold it so it goes tomorrow sadly! given a choice i would go for the R or a boxster spyder as they are rarer.

Glad you sold it quickly Jon but I am sure you will miss it. Lovely car, great spec and the right colour for a CR. At least you got to use it on some great roads and on the track.

Bon chance as they say ...

too cheap, but then it sold fast :-)

these things at dealers are holding very good prices 2 years on.

I still cannot find one I want :-(

Surely it's a no brainer - new 981 Cayman 2.7

Looks fantastic and the press are saying it's even better than the new Cayman 'S'.

The spec is no doubt wrong for you (not buckets as I recall), but the silver one in the OPC network looks incredible. Currently I guess you could get one for a very small amount over £40k.
