Getting myself ready for the coming season - and with my thoughts turning to circuit configurations for my data logger - I was updating my circuit lengths matrix, from the Grey Book, and found the following anomoly:

You see, when I went to school (which was some time ago, admittedly) 2 miles was 3.22 km (to two decimal places) whereas the Grey Book says it's 3.19. Similarly 3 miles is 4.83 km, but the Grey Book disagrees to the tune of 50 metres.

Any thoughts? Anyone know the true lengths (in metres)?

I'd assume the lengths in km are correct to 10 metres. The closest approximation in miles (to 1 decimal place) is what's listed. Sadly, they've written "2 miles" rather than "2.0" miles, resulting in confusion. I'd recommend that the distance in miles is also quoted to two decimal places for consistency.

According to Wiki, it looks like half a job from the MSA (no surprises there then?), but best double-check with MSV >

From the horses mouth:

Snett 200 is 3193 metres (1.984 miles).
Snett 300 is 4778 metres (2.969 miles).

And I was the first person to ask the question and I'm not disturbingly anal (apparently). smile

guess it depends how you measure it?

down the middle? the shortest distance? the racing line?

looking at logging data, I get 4754M and 3192M

I suspect the circuit measure it down the middle, then the MSA make a muck of it.

Nearly an anal moment there .............. I was wondering whose racing line, how much kerb, pre or post monster kerb fitment @ Esses (or whatever it's called this week) hehe

But hey ho, I'll just relax in the sure and certain knowledge that the MSA have made it greyer - 40 Shades? And the rest whistle

Yes, everyone seems to agree on the distance in new money. TBH, I'm not sure why I ever started out converting miles into metres. I can only guess that The Grey Book used to only publish circuit lengths in miles.

Anyway, Trev.

How come you haven't joined up for the new BikeSports Parish?

Hope you're not scared of getting told off.

I'll PM it as I don't think the Mods like that sort of thing. Especially from an old Rocker like me. smile
