Twisted Land Rover Video
Discussion
Bear with me folks, as this is my first attempt at a video road test. I hope that it's of interest: http://vimeo.com/61571087
I really like them and wondering if they are a good alternative to G55s.
I will be shopping in a couple months, wife will need a baby troller! She really likes the Twisted 110 French (there is one around the block from where we leave) and also likes the 4.2 LSE soft dash rangies.
But can the Twisted be as comfortable as a G55 or FFRR on the highway? Are they actually quiet from the inside at 75mph?

Whilst I love my Twisted 110 French Edition the wife positively hates driving it with a passion. Doesn't mind as a passenger but swears she'll never drive it again.I will be shopping in a couple months, wife will need a baby troller! Is it comfortable enough to do long distances? Say London the Alps?Oh Joy
Not as relaxing to drive as almost anything else especially when motoring on but it's plenty comfortable enough and it's quiet due to extensive sound-proofing and great suspenders set up too.

The video gives no detail on the actual performance specs, engine/suspension upgrades and price. The review is only concerned with the image of the vehicle.
As I said, first attempt so bear with me. The video was made for a lifestyle publication so they wanted the focus to be on aesthetics and weren't interested in tech specs. The same as yourself I prefer facts and figures. To answer the question about usability; It'll never be as refined as a Disco or RR but it was very impressive. Motorway speeds in 6th were perfectly liveable and I'd have no problem using one every day for town/country/motorway work.

With that in mind it's a good video. Must be a good profit in these vehicles. In this months Land Rover magazine there is a feature on a £130k custom defender that sold! No one at a point to point will give two hoots about a t
tted Defender.
They all drive beaten up old Range Rover classics don't you know, and on the whole just aren't in to cars.
Only those whose field sports are funded by the lottery/crime/Manchester United would be bothered about how they get to said field.
I also really don't like the way Twisted replace the Land Rover green oval with their own.
Sure it needs a signature, but replacing the iconic name completely isn't a great idea. A Twisted badge to supplement the LR one would look far batter.

Not a chance, and not really.I do wish people would stop looking at "luxuryised" Defenders as a credible alternative to a RR, X5 or Cayenne.
Luxury/performance Defenders are such a honking great oxymoron it's almost comical.

As far as I can see, Twisted just do anything a punter could do themselves i.e. there's no engineering going on just extra leather, special colours etc.
JE Engineering is where you want to go. A choice of engines and they can do anything Twisted can do.

I have a fairly hotted up Defender with a lot of insulation (and have driven a few products by Land Rover tuning firms), parents have a G55 and a 4.2 S/C Range Rover so I'm in a fairly good place to comment. I should also point out that I love all three for different reasons.I will be shopping in a couple months, wife will need a baby troller! First of all the G55 is nowhere near as good/comfortable as a FFRR in the first place, they're a lot noiser at speed and both the ride and handling are abysmal.
I believe that a Defender is capable of being tuned to achieve a better ride and handling compromise than a G55, but that could be simply because the G55 is tuned so appallingly for fake sportiness. My Defender on Konis (not the last word in perfect setup either) certainly rides, steers and handles a lot better than the old man's G55, and is thus a nicer thing for tooling around at lower speeds in.
However, comfort is another matter. You would have to do a collossal amount of work to make a Defender anywhere near quiet and isolated at speed as even a G55, and that's before you get to things like leaks, draughts and climate control.
IMHO a G55 is an entertaining device that a normal person could use in varied conditions every day if they can live with the primary ride whereas you've really got to love Defenders to want to spend a lot of time on the motorway in even a tuned one.

About the only thing increased by tuning a Defender is the wind noise.
Oh, two things.....fuel bill.
I'll confess to becoming quietly worried, in an "Oh dear......" kinda way, not a sleep-depriving way, at the way the Defender is becoming the latest chav trophy footballers Page 3 tit-freak car.
I quite like my unassuming classless Land Rover the way it is without Poof Squiggley getting on the scene, innit?
If you want a shiny thing, buy a Rangey Sport.
And before anyone claiming a certain bhp/ton ram raids the thread, I don't have beard nor a Border collie on the passenger seat and nor is my Land Rover a bronze-green Series 2 truck cab with a hood the colour of Arkwright's dust coat in Open All Hours.
