I would like to replace the fuel line on my car while the body is off.
The metal feed pipe would you replace with 8mm fuel hose or go back to metal and the weak looking return pipe would that be ok with 8mm fuel hose.

I decided to go with 8mm Kunifer for the fuel feed pipe. This links to the fuel pump with a short length of fuel hose with a slightly longer hose at the rear connecting to the tank. This was standard config for my 1979 3000S with the only difference being the kunifer. Since the original copper tube was basically OK but the hose was cracked and leaking, I would suggest that time has shown that metal lasts longer than rubber!
For the return pipe, I used 6mm Faro Poly pipe which I bought online from TinleyTech (this was recommended somewhere on PH). Slight overkill and a bit tricky to join at each end but basically fit and forget. Since this is not pressurised, you just need to be sure that any tube is petrol resistant and won't chafe easily.

Don't replace the metal feed to the carb from tank for rubber... It makes no long term sense.

Ok I see your point will get a metal replacement for it. Just need to get hold of a flaring tool.

When I did mine I took a plunge into the unknown and bought one of these. Did brake and fuel lines in kunifer without any drama - but had to practice a few times to get it right.

Thanks that will do the job very well. I have a pipe bender for the two sharp corners over the diff mount area. May as well use 6mm kunifer for the return.
