Hi Everyone

Sold my 130i M Sport on the weekend (to a fellow PH'er, hope you're enjoying it Paul!)

Now in the market for an E90 M3 Saloon, so if anyone is looking to shift theirs let's avoid a dealer taking their chunk and sort out a deal that's mutually beneficial.

Particularly want front and rear PDC, Logic 7 hifi, 19 inch alloys and EDC.

Looking for an earlier car, 08/58 model with under 45k miles.

Saw this one t'other day, anyone dealt with this garage before? Comments? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

Also going to drop a similar note on the M3 Cutters website.

Any reliability issues to look out for/other stuff to be aware of?

Thanks in advance for your comments - looking forward to becoming a proper member of the M club!!

Will

I have just been through a similar saga, originally wanting an early car as they were cheaper, however i have placed a deposit on a 2011 E90 M3 instead as the early cars seem to have some bizarre spec options and i just could not find one i was happy with

Id check that the car your looking at actually has the USB and the upgraded stereo, as the USB was optional on early cars, i only say this as the seller has listed it as having heated seats which it doesn't

On face value that looks a decent spec.

I think you'll find a lot of the early cars were sold in two batches of pre-registered cars in Nov 08 and Mar 09. There were about 60 cars in the Mar 09 batch and I bought one of them - I recall they were all the same spec except for colour combo. I'm not sure what your view is of an odd spec, but for example, none of them had heated seats (which was the one thing that annoyed me in the winter months). The batch I brought from were registered in Feb 09 and put into the network in March 09. I bought in the April with 16 miles on the clock, but when selling it was of course a 2 owner car. Worth knowing if number of owners factors into your buying decision.

As for your wish list, I thought PDC was standard and most cars will have EDC and 19s. I suspect Logic 7 will be more difficult to find.

I kept mine for 3 years and about 35K miles and p'exed it just over a year ago. Miss many things about it, especially the NA engine which is epic.

Good luck hunting!

Had my E92 M3 a few months now I wanted 19's manual Bluetooth heated seats & EDC anything else was a bonus but wanted the later idrive for the hard drive & later nav so ended up with a sept 09 model.

I like how rare the saloons are I have seen loads of coupes on the road but not one saloon, I think the engine is pretty solid & if you get one from a garage it's nice to have a warranty as a little piece of mind.

Other than the thirst I think they are an epic car both cruiser or bruiser depending on your mood, good luck in your search smile

Cheers all, interesting to hear re: early cars. Have certainly noticed some weird specs out there (i.e. things that you may think would be a no-brainer not included).

I did do some research and it seems E90/92 M3s are quite reliable, no horror threads on PH. Originally wanted an 05/06 M5, but was put off by the fact that it seems a bit like trying to find a diamond in the rough.

Re: warranty - would much prefer one from a BMW dealer; how do you know whether it's worth the paper it's written on from an independent?

Exciting times though, can't wait for that first drive!

Sounds good. Curious - what did you replace it with? Guessing 997 from your username?

No had my 997 for 8 years - in fact it got used much less when I ran the M3.

I replaced the M3 with an F10 M5.

Lovely! How are you finding it?

An F10 is part of my motoring masterplan; need to wait for a bit of depreciation first though!

I really like the M5 - very accomplished all round. Very fast, maybe too fast.

I think both the M5 and M3 saloon have to be among the best all round cars if you want to combine driving dynamics and practicality.

The M3 is a bit more fun to drive IMO but the M5 much faster and has a broader range of ability.

Ah well that explains it then, Heated seats were a must for me and as you say many of the early cars never had them.

Rear PDC is standard, front is optional, as you say Logic 7 is not very common

Looking forward to collecting mine next week, i needed a saloon for ease of access with the little fella, the fact that they look better than the coupe IMO is a bonus

You mean much faster as in drag performance I guess , not really much in the track times

Yes - straight line performance is on another level - and for normal on road driving I think that makes more impact than being able to take a bend a bit quicker or change direction faster.

If I had specced from new I would have added to my car heated seats, Logic 7 and the split folding rear seats that come as standard on the coupe. That would have made the saloon near perfect - except that my youngest is now nearly 6ft and so the 3 series starts to be a bit cramped.

Man maths and man logic always comes up with an excuse to buy something new smile

I've been looking recently too. I specifically don't want Silverstone or Jerez as they were, on the whole, the launch cars. However, try finding a Melbourne red, Interlagos blue etc car and they're few and far between. You can retrospectively add BMW warranty to any FBMWSH car now, so buying one from BMW direct is not strictly necessary.

Good luck with the search thumbup

My car was a Jerez/Novillo Red - and not a launch car - so don't be put off by the colour. I recall listing details on a spreadsheet of the colour combo's, prices and locations of the 60 cars when I spotted them on the approved used site.

They were listed at between £39K and £42K and the majority were Silverstone and Jerez but there were a smattering of other colours. I dithered for about 4/5 weeks and when I finally decided to buy there were only about 10 cars left and they were all Silverstone or Jerez. When I made enquiries about three or four cars and sought to firm up a deal, they all had less than 50 miles on the clock.

Looks nice that. Can I just ask a genuine question... why would someone go for an E90 M3 over a E60 M5? I always found it puzzling why BMW decided to bring out a 4 door model. I hope this doesn't offend, just interested to hear from a potential buyer smile

Edit: Sorry, just read more of the thread to see you did actually start off looking for an M5.

For me - really didn't like the SMG gearbox.

I would have bought a E60 M5 if it had a manual gearbox tens times over my E92 M3, I just prefer a nice discreet barge with a thumping V10 under the bonnet even though I accept they are heavy beasts...but the E92 M3 isn't a lightweight so you may as well go for more power in the M5.

I even mentioned it to the dealer when I got mine as a E60 M5 was parked next to mine...I hate the fact that most big engined cars don't come with a manual anymore...

Have an E39 M5 and parked it beside an F10 the other day. It genuinely looked like a 3 series. The F10 is a monster of a car, the E60 not quite so much, but getting there.

I've got a manual E92 M3 - Jerez black, 53k ish miles, manual.

Full spec I think except EDC.

It's been used as everyday car, so it has a couple of cosmetic bits that need sorting.

Price would reflect unless I get it done before I give it back.

Essentially that's what i'm doing - buy it now price from BMW was 21k......or I can hand it back if I do a bit of work on it (as they charge over the odds for getting work done on return)

ping me if interested - I'm planning to send it back in a few weeks.
