Coughing one's lungs up after exercise - why???
Discussion
To be specific, why after rather than during?
I've just cycled home from work - 15 miles in around 75 minutes - whilst still suffering the back end of a cold. So, the cold explains why the coughing and spluttering and not being able to breathe properly or talk for a good 10 minutes after I got into the house, but why did it only happen after I'd finished riding? I felt absolutely fine whilst I was actually on the bike.
The only thing I could think of was that it was something to do with the sudden increase in temperature, but I'm not sure why that would cause it?

I have a chronic lung condition and noticed this years ago. I'd get puffed doing something but as soon I stopped the trouble really started!
Nobody has ever offered a full explanation and I can only guess it's to do with the airways suddenly not having air forced in/out but instead starting to relax and the secretions then moving and causing irritation. Oh and sudden temperature changes are a nightmare! From warm to cold is like some bugger switching off my lungs completely, cold to warm is less of a struggle but it's still a jolt.
Either way I feel your discomfort!
