IVA/SVA - Has anyone actually taken a TVR through one?

As title really - I am considering a project but would like to talk to someone who has taken a new (ish) TVR (Tuscan, T350, Tamora, Sagaris etc) successfully through the IVA/SVA process and been issued with a number plate. Either of the typical year of the car or a brand new plate.
Note: The chassis would be new (as would the body shell) but would not have a submac as per the cars that racing green & Str8six have built. I have been reading up on the IVA manual but I would like to speak to a human with actual experience of this.

Have you tried Ken at Racing Green? I think that they were going to go that route with the orange Tuscan that ended up as a 12 reg. if I recall they took the car for a test and it became such a faff that the easy answer was to go the submac route.
All sorts of ridiculous tests were being asked for which I believe soon made the non submac route a complete non starter.

I have spoken to them and they said their only experience was with the submac route. I just can't believe it's so difficult as the lotus 7 guys do it regularly. I'm pretty certain that TVR put every Sagaris through an individual SVA test at the time so I'll ask some of the guys up at Bristol Avenue if they know anything that might be of help.That said the major problem that some kit cars have is things like incorrect light heights, un-safe projections and other such things so I wouldn't think one built to the same or similar specs as TVR did using original parts would have any issues.

Brilliant, thanks. I thought that they didn't go through an sva due to being produced under low volume production. Any info greatly appreciated. Certainly not based on how they fixed the brake and fuel lines with cable ties to the chassis.
I don't see how a cable tie is any worse than being pressed into a plastic cable holder which is the common method on most production cars? Certainly not based on how they fixed the brake and fuel lines with cable ties to the chassis.

It's about wear/vibration - a brake pipe/loom cable tied to a metal tube will move slighly and the brake pipe/loom will, over time, wear to some degree. A brake pipe/loom in a plastic clip will wear the clip. I've put two self built cars through SVA and whilst it was a pain, what is being asked isn't actually unreasonable. Haven't tried IVA and the £450 for that is a rip off.
In general, I would have expected a more modern TVR to get through on the usual fail points such as projections, mirror field of view etc, but as said some of the construction parts would have been touch and go.

I guess if your are aware of these things before you start you can build the car in a way to ensure that it passes...? There are plenty of people that have put 'new' minis built on heritage bodyshells through SVA and IVA.
Google some of these to see issues.
Most seem to be projections internal and external, visibility in mirrors, lighting heights and angles and lots of silly little things like tether on fuel filler cap (TVR would fail this for example), emissions, noise etc

It might be OK if a fixing bracket attached to chassis and then cable tie to this but then you may as well jus use the proper fitting then.
TVR just went right round the chassis and the pipe which is shockingly poor really and I can't believe they submitted the approval car like this.

Thanks, been reading up on the issues that the mini guys have been having. I can't believe that nobody has tried to go down this route with a TVR.....Google some of these to see issues.

I put the Tuscan through an SVA in 2007 - I think it probably made it the only TVR registered new in 20076. Being originally a race car and with a design never intended for an SVA and not type approved it was probably quite a bit trickier than getting something designed with relatively recent road regulations in mind. The car was submitted as an amateur build, but I got it registered 'as new' on a 57 plate (so the year I completed it), and registered as a TVR Tuscan and not a 'MyCar HomeBuild' or whatever.
No real problems. Just read the SVA/IVA manual until you know it back to front. You'l find that quite a few of the requirements have workarounds, even some of ones that look tricky up front. But quite a few also need to be 'built in' to the car so you need to plan how you are going to address everything before you start building.
You will probably only get 10% of the items tested - so loads of what you've done to make the car legal just won't get looked at. But you don't know what will be ignored and the testers are pretty good at spotting non conforming items and homing in. Most folks fail first time on a few points - mine did. But passed on the second attempt - and passed 'properly' with everything conforming. That is not to say everything that you put on the car to conform to the regulations is how you actually want the car to be later, but again that's something you have to plan for.

Just been through IVA test with a friends car firstly to get a new reg all parts have to be new with only one major item reconditioned. If the recon part is the engine then emissions are based on the engine age. Silly bits like chassis plate has to be on RHS of car or stamped into chassis also external radius on projections has to be greater than 2.4mm. A cater ham for instance this radius applies to the headlamp mount bar even though if your knee could get in there you would have more than that to worry about. Tyraps on brake lines to chassis are apparently OK as long as there is enough of them and no movement from vibration. I think you would get the car through but you need to read up carefully don't think a std car would pass without mods
