Hello,

This may seem a silly question, but can someone explain the difference between a car tyre and an "SUV" tyre?

They are to be fitted to my 300c, and I am really curious as to what the actual difference is.

In the cases above, just marketing really I'd guess. Both are same size, have same speed ratings, same load ratings etc
So really cant see a huge difference, unless maybe the SUV types are A harder compound offering less tarmac grip and longer life compared to a car tyre, which might be more performance orientated in terms of actual rubber

Thanks Stevie.

To be honest I thought as much, but Camskill when asked, replied it would be illegal to put "SUV" tyres on a car - although they don't seem to be marked as a car tyre or whatever.

The reason I asked the question is, the car already has 2 very good condition Pirelli PZero fitted and I was going to fit another pair so they are all matching (call it OCD if you will).

Thanks again for the reply.

And could Camskill explain why it was illegal, and once fitted to the car, how would anyone be able to tell what specific vehicle they are intended for ?

I'm not saying their wrong, but it makes no sense

No, they just stated it would be illegal - it didn't make sense to me either.

I actually contacted Pirelli and gave them a link to the Camskill P-Zero's - Pirelli state they are car tyres as the only P-Zero SUV tyres are branded P-Zero Scorpion, they are 99Y and not 103Y as in Camskill's link, they have a different tread pattern.

I'll take a punt on them, as they seem reasonably priced for - 245/45/20 tyres.
