This might be a problem as lighting remotes can sometimes be RF (radio frequency) rather than infrared.

Other than that a Logitech Harmony would probably be your best bet. What's your budget?

I am pretty sure the lighting is infrared but will check thanks.

Budget, not an issue.

IPad?

Philips Hue lights really are the dogs dangles for lighting via wifi, VERY app friendly & customisable. I have 7 of the fkers!

Excuse my French there! smile

iPad app programming can be a pain depending on your mindset.

In budget order (low to high) look at.....

Logitech Harmony range
iPad control systems
Pro-control
RTI
Control 4 / Élan G
Crestron / AMX

Several suppliers of these on here.

My advice would be to seriously consider if this is a route you want to take and in depth you want to go. I say this as an owner of a Phillips pronto 980 which is a lovely remote when set up properly but a proper pain when not.
After a few years of tweaking it here and there when I wanted to use functions and realised they were missing I finally got it perfect, then I changed my TV and bought a blue ray player. It has sat unused ever since as not found the inclination to go through it all again.

As said they can be fantastic devices but they can also be complicated little sts.

I'm also a Pronto owner but I have the black and white version of your remote (actually 2 RU950 and the RF extender) so I know what you mean. The best advice I got when I first set up my remote was to have all of your IR codes in a hidden device or devices and then your visible buttons are all links to those. When you then need to update a device you can simply change the codes on the hidden buttons in one place. I've changed various bits of kit over the years and this makes it much easier. It also means I can mix IR and RF codes on the same page and within macros.

I genuinely dread the day my remotes start to fail as I really wouldn't want to live without them.

So True.

Harmony's are the easiest to update yourself, once you get used to how they program.

All others are more indepth and usually are a dealer only install / program.

I love my Harmony One, controls everything I need including fading the lights up and down.

Personally I'd avoid a pure touch screen (ipad type) solution as you need to look at the screen to check you are in the right place. You at least need physical controls for the common functions like volume, change channel etc that you can feel for when slouched on the sofa.

Dont give up but if money is no option then do it properly and get good equipment and qualified people to set it up, when I was looking they charged by the hour and weren't cheap but might be worth it.

I know nothing of toxic or vex but it sounds like they may be able to help with this side and would suggest if I'm right and they can help then a chat with both might be worthwhile.

I am just going through a similar process to control:

Panasonic VT50
Sony AV Amp
Tivo
XBMC on Raspberry Pi
PS3

I have found that I can control the TV, XBMC and key amp functions from the TV remote via CEC over HDMI (by accident).

However as all of the above except the PS3 can be network controlled, I am just playing with this on the iPad - http://www.roomieremote.com/
