I’ve been Type 2 for twelve years now.

Started on exercise and diet, then tablets and now, it seems, that I’ll be starting on Insulin on Monday. With readings now of 14 to 15 each time, despite my tablets, I’m hoping that it will be just one or two jabs per day.

I was fine with this, and to be honest, suspecting that this would be the next step but, after reading through related forums and threads from people struggling with their jabs and hypos at night etc., I have to say that I am becoming very apprehensive about what’s to come.

I know that I have to move on to Insulin as either the tablets or my pancreas aren’t working anymore, but I have to say that I’m nervous about this next step and wonder just how complicated it’s all going to be.

Finally, will Insulin make be less of a grumpy old sod? I am pretty unbearable at home and very irritable.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

And I know it's only a little prick!

As a sufferer of many disaeases, I'm getting used to forums!! The thing to remember is most people who post are those who have problems - not those who are getting on fine. Must admit I don't access diabetes forums but can imagine what you're reading.

I was dx type 2 back in 2002. Same as you, diet, exercise, then tablets then different tabs, then byetta, but when I hit 30 plus when in hospital for something else in 2009 they switched me to insulin and I've had it since, I take a slow release with evening meal and jag before other meals.

You have a variety of injection sites available, tum and inside thighs are my favourite 'victims'. Hardest thing for me is literally testing bloods on fingers - can only use one hand due to other problems and fingers get very sore! Other than that I have no problems with injections - and I used to faint at all jags and now I stab myself!!

Side effects - none! Currently struggling a bit with sugar levels having gone up but I'm now stable ish at low teens with high dose of insulin which is good for me - under care of hospital specialist nurse. When levels are high, I get tired more easily (but could be other reasons for that too) and thirsty - that's my main problem - but other than that you'd not know I was diabetic. And as for hypos - surgery nurse was convinced I must be having them at night cos my insulin dose was so high - but I don't - or if I do I don't know, and given my late night reading and first thing reading are pretty much the same I can't see it sinking in middle of night and then coming back up!!

Thanks very much for that - it has certainly reassured me.

I know that there are many worse things to have and, knowing that wvwn children seem to cope with ease, makes me realise that I'm worrying needlessly.

Well, first jab this morning and I don't know what I was worrying about.

Had to check that it had actually gone in, as I didn't feel any discomfort at all.
