Now forgive me if I'm being stupid, it wouldn't be the first time, but I can't seem to spec up a car on the Mercedes configurator.

It seems to me, that all you can do is look at a picture and chance the exterior colour and wheels, nothing more?

What I wanted to do was spec up a car and see how much it cost, same as you can on everyone else's configurator, but it seems I can't.

All I can do is look at a really disjointed online brochure, it's ste beyond belief.

Unless I'm missing something?????

Really, I can't see anything on the Mercedes website, but never mind.

How ste is that anyway, surely you'd develop the site offline then upload it, not take it down then dick about with it.

Yup. I've had the same problem and yes, totally unprofessional!

The MB website also hangs frequently, times out, you name it.

Whoever designed Porsches new 3D configurator should be given a medal, that's how you do it!

What about ringing a dealer and seeing if they have an idea on final prices?

It'd be a long conversation with him telling me all the details of all the options available, and showing me pictures so I can see what it's like.

Every other manufacturer manages to have a working website, why are Mercedes so ste?

Why not use the price list, which you can download in full. Trust me, it is really easy. You print it out, take a pen and mark a little star (or a cross) next to each option you wish to specify (if you like you can even underline the numbers). Then you take out a calculator (use the one on your iPhone) and add up the numbers in the right hand column of each row that you have put your mark in. At the end, hey presto, you have the price of a car built to your specification.

It will, of course, look exactly the same as all the other E-Classes out there, that is, a perfectly fine white, grey or black saloon car with black seats bedecked with rather vulgar Max Power addenda for the benefit of the tender egos of wage slaves whose only opportunity to demonstrate the pretence of status is in a traffic jam. What counts more? 19" AMG wheels or privacy glass? You tell me. You can even see one in the metal: just go down to the nearest out of town office park or Toby Carvery and stand around for 5 minutes. About 30 will whoosh in or out. Get out of my way, my journey is much more important than yours!

I could end up with an A class that looks like an E class?.....You see, that's what I'm worried about.

I could try to imagine what it's look like, or add it all up myself, but what I'd prefer to do is hit the "configure your car" button and have something useful happen!

Surely we must be missing something, either we don't know how to work it, or Mercedes idea of a configurator is change the colour and wheels and look at the picture?

Thought I'd bump this for a laugh considering I gave up looking weeks ago. The configurator still doesn't work across a number of models. Surreal. Been down two months.

Personally, I'm quite glad, as it has stopped the Mrs speccing up a new A Class...

It wasn't working last April/May when I was looking to buy mine, don't think it has since then at all.

Seems a bit of a poor show from the web/marketing monkeys.
