Hi everyone,

Having problems with buffeting on my Porsche 997.2. Putting both windows down helps, but I gather there is supposed to be a pop up air deflector in the sunroof? Please may you confirm if this is the case because I can't see that on my car?

Cheers

Why have you started another thread on the same subject? See my last post on your other thread - the "deflector" is very obvious if in place and can be detected from the driving seat.

If it is there and popping up, the Porsche 911 sunroof is probably not for you - my Q5 sunroof (big glass job) is much better at not buffeting.

Thanks, that's really useful.

I posted another thread because no answer on the other one.

The sunroof cassette was replaced by Porsche and it was then that I noticed unbearable noise. It went back to Porsche and despite me mentioning this deflector, they ignored me and replaced something else. Got the car back and obviously confused by noise still being there but could not see the deflector or find anything about it in the manual. I asked Porsche about it and they didn't know anything about it, so I wanted to ask other owners.

Speaking to Porsche again, the "sunroof expert" went to look at another gen 2 car and apologised profusely for ignoring me and missing it the 2 times he had it in for inspection. He didn't realise there was one and is now ordering it.

Mystery solved.

Lol, some of them really are priceless!

I see your issue now - if you compress the deflector when driving, the buffeting increases significantly.

Hope the fix solves it for you?

Just thought I'd add this little snippet of info as well (nothing to do with the OP's problem though): opening the sunroof with the one-touch button results in the 3/4 opening as shown in the picture. If you press the button again, the sunroof retracts further to give a bigger opening... useless fact I know!

I had an issue similar on my Targa, slightly different obviously, but the deflector was popping up but the buffeting above 30mph was awful, I noticed that if you pushed the deflector outwards (towards front of the car) this stopped, I established it was because there was a gap between the deflector and the roof causing air to flow under the deflector, to fix it I put 2 small pieces of plastic on each side of the deflector strip to push it up and close this gap, since then it has been fine.

The 1st stop position is the point at which Porsche decided the minimum buffeting is produced with the roof open.

The 2nd stop is just maximum roof travel
