Dutch Calibra Turbo rustoration
Discussion
By paying for one of the last batches of brand new parts that still need to go into it the final phase of my restoration has officially commenced so I will keep the history to my project over here:
http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/projects-restoratio...
Long story short, bought it in december of 2008 as a Christmas present to myself and started to tear it apart in december of 2010, followed by drilling out the quarter panels myself with ZERO prior experience. Did pretty well (thank God!) after which me and my boss towed the undriveable car to the paint and body shop just accross the road from work (oil cooler started leaking like mad just before the teardown started).
A good amount of time later I unsuspectedly had to pay a work related visit to the paintshop and was awestruck by the sight of brand new E270 Spectral Blau, these pics are preceded by the "just before application of primer" pics:
http://s1050.photobucket.com/user/InjectTheVenom02...
The last pic is what my interior looks like at the moment, dashboard torn out to swap the heater housing for a climate control version, accompanying extra wires are tapped into the car's own loom in the right places, everything neatly packed back together with linen tape.
Just need to finish a small amount of taping and wait for new O-rings on the heat exchanger and AC evaporator plus new mounting screws for the heater housing before I can wrap up the transplantation stage and put everything back together.

Just for those who won't click the link...

Very smart looking car! Never thought I would say that about a Calibra, but with Max Power firmly behind us, those lines look good!
+1..most of them have been MAX POWERED with naff alloys and halfords tut.

Hehe well I bought it in 2008 and only now that I am about to get these 4 pistons back on the road did I feel like becoming active
I really hope people start paying Calibra's some more attention in the good way because Turbo's like mine haul ass pretty hard even in stock form.
Got a functional OEM Blaupunkt CD300D RDS ready plus a set of OEM floor mats that will only go in for shows, as well as a brand new OEM rear silencer with the correct Calibra Turbo part number, and just this week the wires to the rare OEM climate control option were plugged/soldered into the main loom. Would love to keep it mostly stock and add a bit more power to keep it classy but anywhere above 350hp and the smarter thing to do is go after a low priced Gen 1 Viper which is my REAL dream car.

Biggest pain in the arse at the moment is that I can NOT find the infamous defroster trim strip anyplace
Looks like this (the top 3):

And goes on there:

If anyone has a lead on a brand new one, part number 90434214 2209445, I would be beyond delighted to hear from you!!
Good luck with that one my friend, Mine has several cracks in it.

This weekend I decided to cave in and order the Lenk cover, going to let my painter have a go at it by painting it in the same anthracite color as the strip, maybe he can do structure paint to copy it as close as possible.I know Lenk in germany sell replacement ones, but not in original form, they do Carbon fibre effect etc

I should of ordered one a few years ago when I had the windscreen replaced, would've been an easier swap.
BLAST!! Got the wrong O-rings for the heater radiator and AC evaporator despite sending in the correct part numbers (delivered = completely round, taken from vehicle = flat sided on both accounts), hopefully these can still be soured somewhere

Question for the DIY'ers out there, I need a thin industrial grade double sided tape that will keep sticking in the vicinity of a heat source (front window defrosting channels and car interior heat). Is there such a thing and if so who sells it?
Might pay to post that question in herehttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a...

Now to find a way to mount it in such a way that this one will not crack in the future.
