Just had my renewal on my insurance policy and yes its gone up for no reason at all.

It was a restricted mileage Chaucer policy that allowed bolt on track day cover at extra cost.
I had to call and give full details of any event in advance and then pay £125-£200 per day.

I made one call to Mannings after seeing a recommendation on here for them.

They offered me a Amlin policy.

Policy reduced by 33%.

Excess reduced by 33%.

Unlimited mileage.

and get this... Unlimited track day cover at no extra charge in UK and Europe if organiser is ATDO member.
I dont even have to inform them of the event, the cover is in place.

Very very impressed.

sounds good but it seems that is is for business and wouldn't dream they were covering Northern Ireland.

Hi,

My GT3 is insured with Mannings and have to say that it was by far the most competitive quote I had obtained. The trackday insurance is a no brainer!

What are Mannings T & C's for the inclusive track day cover, excesses etc?

The excess is 10%, but I believe this is a standard (or thereabouts) for insurance cover on a track....

Used Mannings for years and they have always been ultra competitive, the track cover is an added bonus smile

i'm also with mannings, top service. had to change from cci when they stopped offering trackday cover for under 35's. mannings came out cheaper than cci and also as you say offer unlimited trackday cover and i don't even have to pick the phone up.

after having a lengthy discusion with the guys at cci, from what they were saying. it seems like there old cover, which was very good and had 5 free trackdays, became popular with the younger people. (like me)But most were unexperienced with high end/performance cars which resulted in a spike of claims.

Ive got my suspicions that the main problem was the younger people now being able to afford e46 m3's as cci were the cheapest and most competitve at the time. all just my assumptions of course. But think we need to keep mannings quite to stop this happening again frownlaugh

I would have gone with Mannings for my GT3 this year except for the fact that they require a car to be on SORN for laid up cover. A 75% refund on the insurance premium is hard to ignore.

Surely if you're laying a car up you would want to SORN it anyway?

I use Manning for my GT3. And yes, I have included business use for it as the wife uses it from time to time to visit clients.
I really used them for the all inclusive trackday cover including Europe. Means I can use it for Spa and ring trips if they are organised by the usual UK TDO's.
it was a bonus that it was cheaper than my existing cover.

The time/effort involved with a SORN/tax disc is too much hassle if you're laying the car up but want immediate access. I'm now insured by Aviva and will get a 75% refund for when I have the car in storage. If I decide I want to drive it, I just call my broker, he'll put it back on full cover and I can drive it immediately. I would rather just keep the car taxed. In the words of a now infamous meerkat, "simples"!

Marsh wanted the car to be on a SORN and a single use garage if it was laid up. What are you supposed to do if you use a professional storage facility or have a car collection?!

I asked Mannings for a quote as a result of this thread, they were not competitive.

I went with Admiral in the end. No trackday cover though.

I judge how good the cover is once its time to claim not by the cost .
None of those discussed above were suitable for me or my cars unfortunately .

Indeed. This is when you find out whether the company is any good.

Too right. I'm insured with Chubb via Symmetry and they've proven excellent in every respect. They've got my home, contents, travel AND car as a result. (No affiliations other than loving them to bits.)

One year's cover at £2 is £2 wasted if they're crap to deal with when something goes wrong. In fact, I'm looking into offering yearly cover for PHers at £1 fully comp. If something goes wrong, though, I hope your car is in my favourite colour that day or claiming will be difficult! Call me on 555-...

I really don't get the obsession with the cheapest price. There's always cheaper food than what you're eating, it's just whether you want to put it in your face or not.

There's also cheaper cars than these Porsches we've bought, but many of us didn't even consider them.

It's down to our assessment of risk isn't it? We all think that we are great drivers and won't possibly have a crash, so aim for the lowest cost policy. Indeed, I purposely go for a higher excess to lower the policies cost. This puts more responsibility on me, which I accept.

You pays your money......

None of us are saying that your post/cover is one of the ones about a cheap (vs. good value) policy, Giggle, just that it's important to understand that what looks like good cover may not be. The test comes when you need to claim, that's all. I hope that if something happens that you'll have an equally good experience.

If you get a laugh out of us in the meantime that's good too, though :-)

Well for me I have always gone with cheapest quote provided usual features were offered. And in the 8 or so claims in my 24 years of driving (2 deemed to be my fault) I have found the claims service to vary between good and excellent

Amlin (through Mannings) have almost been taken to the insurance ombudsman twice recently for badly dealing with Porsche claims. In the end it was rectified and as such Amlin have allegedly changed part of their policy but this has yet to be proved in reality.
