Decent Indian resturant - Aberdeen
Discussion
Since the search function is out again, I thought I'd just ask instead!
I'm taking the wife up to Aberdeen for a kiddie free night out tonight, staying in rosemount area. And the plan is to go to a really good Indian resturant. We have a great local on here in Brechin, and I live my curries, so I'm looking for any local reccomendations from any aberdonians!
Must have a nice atmosphere, pref not far from rosemount, but taxi no problem for a good resturant! And got to be good food!

cinnamon, light of bengal and nawaabs are all walkable from rosemount and are very good imo.
Since the kids aren't coming you could try Nirvana..?
Cheers for that. I've heard mixed reports about cinnamon, and I know nothing about the other two.Since the kids aren't coming you could try Nirvana..?
Just googled nirvana, interesting place ....! Main question is the food any good? :-)
Just mentioned it to the wife and she says as long as "they don't prance around me naked when I'm eating" then she would go for the novelty factor!

Also just been looking at rishi's on George Street, sounds good on reviews on trip advisor. Any experiences of it?
Indian pal of my FiL rates it, but i havent tried it out myself.. if you do go please let me know! Light of Bengal has previously been a good haunt in previous years

I'd say this is the best I have been to, try the dosa bread
Shri Bheema's on Belmont St is supposed to be very good too but I haven't been to it yet though.
I live right across the road from Rishi's and never go; make of that what you will! The food is ok I guess, I just don't like the atmosphere.
Now if the blue elephant had a sit-in option...

monsoona is very good too, toilets are a bit strange though.
There's one on King Street called Lahore Karahi which I thought was superb. Again the setting etc isn't great - I wouldn't take a date there - but the food was very nice and much more interesting than most curries in Aberdeen.

I haven't been myself, the fact she's willing to try means you have to..Even if the food is rubbish you'll have something to talk about and plenty to look at

Thanks to everyone who posted, all reviews really helpful!
Like I said, I went for rishi's in George street, and it was excellent. Food was very, very good, waiters were attentive but not too in your face. We never had to call anyone over to us the whole night. Total meal took about 2 hours, but we were not in a rush, and enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks in between courses, also gave us a bit of a break between courses which was needed!
Only negative was a 2 minute queue for the toilet, strangely with the size of the place there was only 1 toilet for men? But that's the only negative I can think of!
Started with a madras Marsala dosa, which was gigantic! Filled with flavoured potatoes and some lovely spices. Also came with 4 little pots of contrasting sauces. No complaints there, even for a dedicated carnivore like me!
Main was a chicken vindaloo, garlic rice and keema naan. Rice was light, full of flavour, naan was super fresh not greasy and very very good. Vindaloo wasn't a true goan vindaloo, no potato in it and different sauce, but it tasted fantastic! Chicken was perfectly cooked, and lovely hot and very spicy sauce, again full of flavour.
To be honest I've been a curry obsessive for years, and ill honestly rate this as one of the top Indian restuarants I've ever been to. My wife reckons it is the best!
Any meal where the food hangs off 3 sides of the plate is a winner in my book :-)
Total cost with 2 starters, 2 full mains, rice, 2 naans, 2 beers, 2 martini tonics, water and a bottle of Pinot Grigio.......£58! Bargain!
