Bonnet ornament

Staying at my parents and they have two Mercedes, woke up this morning and both have had their bonnet ornaments stolen... ripped out. They were on the drive, one was even nose in up against the front of the house, but they got both...

Is it a costly or routine repair? Is there any way preventing it? Or is it just an inevitability of Mercedes ownership?

They're only about £40 from your local MB parts department and a doddle to fit; they do however take some pretty impressive force to get out so check there's no more damage.
