I have recently been looking through the classifieds, as most men do, at all sorts of cars I cant really afford. Its mainly warm/hot hatches I am interested in as having a little girl means a big boot but a quick car appeals. Its when I came across the Corolla T Sport that I started to wonder what other hot hatches have fallen under the radar.

I know the Corolla is not well liked and reading up on them I can understand why. However, something like the Corolla appeals as not many would know what it is nor expect it to be as quick as it is. I just like something that is a bit different.

So what else is out there along similar lines? Warm/hot hatches that fell under the radar for what ever reason.

The first two that sprang to mind are the Mazda 3 MPS and the Citroen Xsara VTS. Even rarer and less well-known than the Corolla T Sport was the Corolla Compressor. 215bhp:

Renault Sport Clio 172. Silver, with 5 spoke silver alloys and no visible tailpipes.

Love both the Mazda 3 and 6 mps. I know about the T sport compressor, love the idea of a supercharged corolla.

The Fiat Punto GT was meant to be pretty good. Although I can't recall ever actually seeing one in person.

Or one of my all time favourite 'forgotten' hot hatches, the Honda City Turbo II, 99bhp in something tiny and light:

Good luck ever finding one here though!

Corolla T sport is not a hot hatch.

I had a low mileage example, 6 speed, vvti but probably the worst attempt
at a hot hatch ever due to

Soggy suspension
Bad choice of gear ratios
Overly peaky engine
Seats that would suit a mini cab, no side support
No steering feel

What a dreadfull attempt at a hot hatch.

I always wanted to try one. I'd heard it described as being an extremely lacklustre attempt at copying Honda's Type R magic. Except it was all wrong. The buzzy engine sounded interesting, but the rest of it sounds so compromised I don't know if I would enjoy it.

146Ti. Fiat Bravo HLX 20v. (Or the even more forgettable saloon version - the Marea HLX 20v)

I don't think non petrolheads would notice a Primera eGT or Sunny / Almera GTI.

Everyone knows the Pug 306GTI, but how many would take a second glance at a ZX Volcane 2.0 16v? - or a Xsara VTS. Both criminally under-valued.
