Morning PH...
Perhaps I should know the rules on this but as I'm not sales based I don't know the ins and outs.
I bought a Fiesta Titanium in January. It's fitted with Ford's new media system called Sync. This allows you to connect any phone/mp3 player through the USB port and it will work through the stereo and allow you to control it. You can also "stream" music through bluetooth. It is also specifically sold as being iPhone/iPod compatible. Now when I first picked up the car I bought another cable for my iPhone and leave it in the car and always plug my phone into it before I start driving to listen to music. Works a charm and obviously bluetooth takes care of the calls. Now a month into ownership (mid February) this system decided it didnt want to work with either my iPhone, iPad or iPod - it just would not connect. The display froze on "No Autoplay while indexing tracks". Bluetooth calls work fine, but music playing in any format be it 3.5mm line in, USB or bluetooth streaming is all dead and will not connect.
So I book the car into the dealer - they reset the system on IDS everything works fine. Tell me they've never had another vehicle do it, mines the first - it shouldn't happen again, do apologise Mr Smith. Even cleaned it for me. Bonus. Two weeks later, same scenario. Booked in again reset on IDS working again. Three weeks later (Wednesday last week) same fault occurs again. I was told there should have been an update in March to Sync to stop this happening however Ford are dragging there heels over it. In effect they cannot fix the car until this update happens and this system will keep dieing. I log a complaint with Ford Customer Liason as three times in a 3 month old car isn't acceptable. Last night it did it again.
If I had any hair I'd be pulling it out. I know its only a minor feature on the car but it was a big selling point to me that I could listen to the music on a device, never have to carry round a CD again its all on my iPhone. Now to be told there's nothing they can do about it frankly sucks. The salesman at the dealer has the same car/phone as me. His hasn't done it once. Mine is now on the 4th trip back to the dealer during the week to be reset.
What can I kick Ford with? Seems like I'm being fobbed off - I have seen a printout detailing this update but they wouldn't give me a copy of it. Also worth mentioning I work in the parts department of the dealership but I will be leaving in 4 weeks to move onto a new job so its going to be damned inconvenient to keep taking the car the other side of town to be reset. Can I threaten them with rejection or is that to late? I don't want to do it as I love the car otherwise but I need some leverage to speed this process up. Whats your advice?

Are you sure its not something wrong with your phone?
I only ask as it will be bloody awkward for you if it turns out to be so.
No. OP stated the same issue occurred with iPad and iPod.I only ask as it will be bloody awkward for you if it turns out to be so.
I`d be pushing for an immediate software update and the promise of a new system if that does not resolve the issue.
Especially on a new car.

Good thinking, but he says he's tried it with his iPhone, iPad and iPod. - He'd have to be very unlucky for all three to be faulty.I only ask as it will be bloody awkward for you if it turns out to be so.
Also, what would be the point in replacing the system with another of the same design (with the same flaw)? OP; It sounds like you need that update. I would argue that the system as it currently stands is not fit for purpose and would ask for some form of compensation for the inconvenience of having to wait for a software update to make it all work as originally intended.
Thanks for all your replies. Ironically this morning it decided to connect.
My phone is running ios 6.1.3 Definitely isn't a phone issue as several people i know have similar phones and non of there's will connect.
Ill ring them in the morning and see what happens! The system has 5 different components, the screen, cd player, control panel, module and usb socket. Would be pointless changing all 5 if its a software fault.

Update - failed at the weekend started working by itself again randomly. This morning it failed again, and I was told again - what do you expect we cant fix it at the minute. Customer services are relying on the dealer who are relying on technical who have no fix. So the only loser is me having a 3 month old car that the iPod connectivity and bluetooth has died on 5 times.
Not particuarly a happy chappy at the minute. May seem trivial to everybody but this is part of the reason I bought a brand new car to avoid issues.
Arghhhhhhhhhh!

Yeah the iPod and iPad use the same leads, the iPhone I've got 2 cables and neither make any difference. It's the car, my little brother has a Pioneer stereo running an iPhone 5 in his car without an issue and a mate uses his iPhone 5 in his 2006 Accord with no issues.
A quick reboot of the SYNC module on IDS clears the fault until the next time it throws it out. Can take days/weeks. Ford are reluctant to start changing parts until this update is done.
My personal opinion is that they dont know the system well enough to diagnose it properly (as its a new system) and as its JUST my car its either my phone or the car has a fault. Seeing as my phone doesnt cure it after a reboot it must be the car.
