Spent 5hrs doing the steering bush upgrade yesterday. Virtualy struggled with everything as bits did not want to come apart. As it was raining I done it in the garage, which is not all that large, just manage to open the drivers door to get to the footwell. As I am not the smallest carrot in the bag had hell of a stuggle getting to the column base. Leaning on the seat with the left hand side of my chest, didnt feel anything at the time but now have very bruised and tender ribs. With the car jacked up etc had a sod of a time getting the splined shaft out of the uni joint. Well it is 30 yrs old! After 3hrs of swearing got it out, doing the mod to the bulkhead and fitting the bush setup. Bent over double with my head in the wheel arch this is how you get a bad back ache. While the steering column assy was on the bench thought would have a clean up and lube bearings only to find that the thru rod was bent !! it was throwing by 1/2" !!! WTF . How the hell did that get bent, and was wondering why my steering wheel was on an eliptcal orbit. Put it in the lathe and trued it up, assembled it all together, removed 3 spacing washers that were in the mounting bracket so have a bit more knee room. Much better. AS the weather go worse couldnt take the car for a test drive but am sure its going to a million times better ..................... cheers Mark

p.s if I take some more painkillers , where are those trailing arm bushes , never mind next weekend !
