Hi

Firstly I expect this post to be removed but I am so furious and fcensoredk I don't care!

While we were getting the TVR's sorted today, the Tuscan needed fuel so I decided to go and get some, as I have a Shell card and fanced a run after being in Hospital I went for a ten mile run to my local Shell station to get fuel in my Range Rover.
WeIl I had a problem on the way to get fuel, I got a puncture/blow out in the nearside front tyre!
I pulled down a side rood off the A428, and Simon came out to me! He and a friend got me into the back seat of his car and I came home as Simon would change the wheel and then carry on for fuel for the Tuscan!
Well I got home, and then Simon rang to say he had a problem.

The spare wheel of the Range Rover didn't fit.

Ok no problem I will get the RAC out to repair or recover the car!

That's when the real problem occured!

The RAC wanted /insisted that I had to go the 6 miles back to the car so it could be repaired, it is there policy the owner of the vehicle has to be there. Off course that was not really a thing I could do especally as I had to by this time of the day prepare the anti-bioatics (I have to take) so the can be infussed into me!
I explained to them that it was impractable due to my medical health. But no I had to go back, after a lot of heated words and even threats from then I agreed to some how go back!

Bcensoredd

Fortunaly the local petrol man rang me to say he was on his way (Before I left home) I explained what had happened, he saw sense and went to Simons aid and they found a largeish hole due to a cut in the tyre!

They some how did a temp repaired and Simon drove it back very carefully!

Why O why do these companys not just bend the rules for circamstances like this!

I get my RAC cover free with my bank account, but if I had purchased it I would certainly have cancel it as from three hours ago!

OK ranting over, and thank you PH for not removeing this post if you haven't!

Andy

Discression doesn't seem to be in anyones remit these days Andy. They all follow a set procedure & that's it, if you don't fit you don't get.

Well worth taking it up with the RAC as they've bin payed for it from the Bank, yet they have failed you. yes

Andy that cant be right!
i have the same set up, free RAC with bank account, and i've used it on the wifes car, flat battery. The alternator connection had worked loose.
Anyway i was under the impression it was the person not the vehicle that was covered.
And in circumstances like yours it is scandalous. Would they have treated a pregnant woman like that? Doubt it.
The sad thing is, if you complain the patrol man would probably het his jotters for seeing sense.

Exactly, it is the person that's covered not the car and that's why they wanted Andy there.

...but how bloody stupid if you'd known that before then you'd just lie wouldn't you? So yet another ridiculous rule that as Andy says could have been easily overlooked in the circumstances.

No such thing as common sense anymore!

I agree they are being bloody minded. However I have used their own rule to my advantage - my Rover gearbox packed in in London many years ago, so I got a mate who was covered to come down the next day and the RAC took it back free of charge.

Hi Andy
Pretty much had the same thing happen to me resently and after attending the guy had pissed off home, leaving me to wait another hour for another recovery truck and if that was not bad enough the rac told me that the timing chain had jumped on my Transit and the engine was shot, but after getting it back i found that all that was wrong was a injector was lose, this not only cost me 2 days hire of another van, but i losed work because of there crap mechinic, so i rang them, reported the guys and got all my bills paid, there a bloody joke, cheers Ralph

Let them know they are not the only recovery firm in the country and if necessary change to another as a matter of principle. There is no common sense or loyalty left in any trade these days, unless its a small firm that can give you personal service.

yeah V8, i've gone off on a tangent. Andy said they wanted the vehicle owner not the policy holder.
Didnt explain what i meant very well.

Hi Andy,

That's a shocking story, you are right to name and shame them IMHO. When my car died last week the recovery firm were excellent, phoned me to check I was ok, phoned me to ask if I wanted them to send someone to try and fix it or just tow me, asked how low the car was to ensure it would go on the low loader, phoned me 3 times to see if the tow truck had turned up - great service.

Not always

I have the car covered not the driver (with RAC)

I was an RAC member for many years - top level of cover with all options which cost a fortune every year. A few years ago I had a problem with a starter motor on my car and after coming out to the car they said they would have to trailer it away at a cost of £260. Apparently home start means they will fix the car at your address but will not recover it unless it is at least 1/4 mile (I think) from your address.

Also, I have mentioned this before on here but after an accident in my Cerbera early one evening the RAC recovered it from the accident but as the garage was closed (TVR Power) could they drop it off on my drive and continue the recovery in the morning. I agreed as sounded reasonable. 7am the next morning I had a phone call to inform me they would not be continuing the recovery from my home address unless I paid £260. Not what you want to hear at 7am when very stiff and a little shook up from a smash the night before. I spoke to a manager to point out it was them that put the car on my drive last night but they didn't want to know. It took a couple more calls from me and threats of legal action against them before they agreed to pick up the car and continue the recovery to the garage without charge. "As a goodwill gesture" as the manager put it.

Oh an don't forget that unless you have a TVR repair centre within 10 miles of your home address the the policy is practically useless as they will only tow a max of 10 miles to an approved <car brand> repair centre.

Dimwitted fkers.

AA for me from now on - less silly rules.

A couple of years ago i was calling out the RAC every month or so it seemed..Delilah was breaking down a lot..There were times that i needed trailering to the ford garage but they would only trailer it the first 10 miles..The garage was 12..They wanted to charge me 100 sobs for the extra 2 miles..I opted for a friends recommendation for an independant recovery guy..I always use him now if i need to be trailered..He will come out on christmas day if needed!.. The RAC say that they fix the majority of vehicles at the roadside..Yeah alright..I had one out of eleven call outs where they managed that..And i was mis-sold a recovery package..Homestart and roadside recovery were not on the deal when i took out breakdown cover..They left me stranded a few times...They seem to forget which side the bread is buttered..Rude bastids...There is no compassion or old school manners anymore..This country is fked!...Ziga
