Well I have to say, I watched that Recing Heroes or whatever it was called over Christmas. I know a lot of people love him - and that is fair enough.
But I have to say, whilst I still respect him as a driver, I don't think he came across terribly well - has a tremendously high opinion of himself (eg. insisting he never made a mistake and the only accidents he ever had were car related - admittedly he did a lot of races in eraly Lotuses - but all?!)
I guess he is just a product of his time - but JYS is not from tooo different an era (were it not for the Goodwood accident their careers would have over-lapped) and he came across very well.
I am sure some will say 'who cares, he did the business on the track' and that is fair enough and more power to you. It's just my tuppenceworth.
Though georgetuk - it wasn't the journo's job to protect Stirling, that is Stirlings job. His job is to write copy that will sell and be widely read.

The daft thing is, about 3 years ago he presented the BWRDC (British women racing drivers club) Goldstar awards and during the ceremony said completely the opposite.
To be fair to him in this article he actually says he "doesn't know if they've got the mental capacity..." which isn't quite the same thing as saying they lack the mental capacity.

I think that his comment is being misinterpreted. I believe what he was actually saying is that women have a greater sense of self preservation and therefore are not so willing to put themselves in a position that may kill or seriously injure themselves and therefore may not have the killer instinct necessary of a F1 drivers.
I am sure that in the past it has also been said that male F1 drivers tend to take less risks when they have children to support, and for the same reason. Might explain why Seb didnt back off the other week when Mark did.

Are you saying he does know?How would you know if he knows something he says he doesn't know? And why would he lie about not knowing something if it's possible for another person to know he knows it? Are you a solicitor by any chance?! That defence is stretching the case I think - whilst technically and linguistically accurate, that doesn't take into account the vernacular use of the phrasing which as good as states that he is of the opinion that they do not. How would you know if he knows something he says he doesn't know? And why would he lie about not knowing something if it's possible for another person to know he knows it? And how would you prove it? To a certain extent he's probably right.
Its a known fact that women do not perceive spacial awareness in the same way as men , part of the reason many women repeatedly fail to get their reasonably sized car into just the one reasonably sized parking space. my daughter and daughter in law being cases in point.
Thus men will most likely make better racing drivers. Simple really.
