Hy guys,

I'm french and have owned a V8V since one year and half. As we don't have any french forum about AM, I try here where people seem to be good at solving problems on AM.

I currently meet a problem that is worrying me on my Aston:

Last week end I washed (hand washed) my V8V, leaving keys in the ignition, but not turned on(position 0 ?). It lasted about 2,5 hours. At the end of the washing, I had "Low battery" written on the dashboard but the car started up well and enabled me to enter it in the garage.

Yesterday, as we had good weather conditions, I was pleased to ride my Aston.
It started well, radio on to start my ride. 1 minute later, as I was driving, the radio stopped and started again, 1 minute later started and stopped another time and then during all the ride (about one hour driving with stops).

I plugged again my conditionner (as I do everyday) on it all night long but today it wasn't better. The radio keeps on starting and stopping. I realised that GPS is also concerned.

Have you guys already met this problem ?

Isn't the radio/GPS that is out of order (please no) ?

I hope you can help me at this point !

If your car is 2006 and on the original battery, I think it is ready for a new one.

Try a new battery before doing anything else.

My other car a 2006 Chrysler recently needed a new battery.

Hello

Thanks for the answer.
I guess it could be the battery but don't know if it is the original one.
It has a Aston Martin sticker on it. Other information is :
12V, 90Ah, RC170 MINS, 680 AMPS (SAE), 2R83-10655-AA

But when I get it charged back with my conditionner, why doesn't it the radio get normal again ?

We have been made aware of a French forum over the past few days. Do a search for Aston Passion smile

Modern cars with lots of electrical equipment are very susceptable to battery voltage. If the battery is the original it is probably starting to fail under load. It will probably charge up on the conditioner, but has no load capacity.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I heard about this forum but only pistonheads and 6speedonline reach such a performance level...
If I could I would have post on Aston Passion, to prevent my english long-time writing !

Leaving the keys in and car open pulls the electronics out of "standby" you also did this when it was already telling you it was VERY low.
Starting it would pretty much empty the battery.
You'd need a good run just to recover the starting current
I'd say leave it on a proper charge for a few days not just trickle charge
If that doesn't do it new battery

+1
As Mikey k also says, take it for a long drive 20 mins at least and not in traffic. Turn off radio and sat nav whilst you are driving. Your battery is very low and it looks like your conditioner is struggling to fully re-charge it.
Be prepared to buy a new battery.
Welcome to the forum, we are here to help.

frown Sorry to disagree with a few fellow Astoners, but I don't think its the battery at all. If it were the battery, then other functions in the car would start to fail, but first the main power hungry ones would fail, primarily the starter.

The SatNav and the radio (Infotainment system) is linked together, so the SatNav will stop as well. Before I throw some wild guesses as to what could possibly be wrong, could you explain what the problem is with the infotainment system.....

Is there any regular pattern to it? Does it affect the CD and Radio and SatNav, does it happen with the engine running? Or only if the ignition is on, but not engine running? Does the SatNav give any messages, such as, "cannot read disc"?

Does the Radio face stay on, but the sound disappear? I have seen this before.

Sorry more info needed ......... wink

I have had this stereo problem before, mine did it in 1min 15second cycles! Would switch itself off, then back on for 1m 15secs, then off again. Very annoying as I was in the middle of Switzerland and their local radio is bad frown

Certainly wasn't battery as the car has been doing several hundred miles per day. Eventually after a number of engine restarts it cured itself and the problem has never occurred again.

Who knows smile

It affects CD, radio and satnav.
If happens with or without engine running
No messages at all anywhere
Everything dissapear, as if I would turn it off manually. GPS too, it restarts with aston martin logo etc... but doesn't rotate back inside the dashboard (maybe it doesn't have the time because it starts again too early).

Sounds similar to Yeti's issue, almost like it fails to "boot" properly and keeps rebooting itself trying to sort itself out.

Did everything shut down or only sound ?
I have not measured time between ons and offs, but I doesn't seem that regular.
I'll check that tomorrow

Your Infotainment system is completely controlled by computers (indeed what is not nowadays), and these things seems to go wrong. Yeti had a regular issue (1m15s) I have heard similar myself. If the problem is intermittent, then I would guess at a lose connection, bad dry joint, or just plain broken. If it is regular, then I agree with the other PH'er and say the system is trying to reboot and having difficulty.

If its regular, then you could reboot the full system manually, by disconnecting the battery. Disconnect and leave it for a couple of minutes, then reconnect. But remember you will have to reset your seats and windows, not to mention you will lose all your radio-presets and SatNav presets.

Trying the cheapest option first, then I'd try a manual reset / reboot, then take it from there. smile

I've already tried this, using hard reset yesterday (no changing) and BDS today (no more changing)

I have not reset my battery myself so I have not read or researched the procedure. But did you discconet all the power, I know it sounds a silly question, but I'm uncertain that if you press the disconnect button, does it totally disconnect the power or does it still allow the infotaintment system and computers that control the seats and windows to remain active so that the presets remain intact?

When you disconnected and reconnected, did you have to reset the seats and windows?

The entire system would shut down - no electircal power to it. Then it would boot back up. If you were playing a CD, it would UST start to play a song before it would click off again.

This lasted for about 2 or 3 days, so probably about 20 engine restarts while touring.

Then on the third day, much like our Lord Jesus, it was gone.

BDS does not disconnect everything
As you say a FULL reset needs the battery properly disconnected
Then it needs relearns (maybe idle/coast down as well?)
