Edit: For an update on my ownership experience one year on, go to page 3 smile

Thought I'd do a quick post about my latest purchase - I saw it on autotrader a few days ago and immediately wanted it: a phone call and a viewing later and it was mine. Slightly left-field choice for an 18 year old, but insurance isn't a lot more than the renewal on my mazda 3 - it should cost £1800-£1900 in June when I buy a full years insurance (I'm just using temporary cover at the moment)

Anyway, it's a 2003 Jaguar XJ6 3.0 in executive spec which includes nav, rear entertainment, 12 speaker/2 sub stereo and all the little extras you'd expect on a car like this. Been driving it a couple of days now and it's safe to say I'm happy with it: it's incredibly smooth and certainly quick enough when you want it to be. I paid £4500 for it which was perhaps a bit high, but considering the condition and history I#m happy.

I'm keeping the mazda and the volvo for a few months, but in all likelihood both will be sold and I'll have this as my one main car. Can't say I'm too disappointed by that to be honest biggrin

Comments, questions etc are of course welcome, and here's some pictures taken by a friend of mine also on PH (csully94)

Gorgeous car. My Father In Law has a 4.2 and every time he goes and looks at a newer model, he sticks with what he's got instead. I love Jaguars, maybe even Jags, but I don't like to see them referred to as Jaaaaggggs. It just seems derogatory. You probably think I'm odd now! hehe

Gorgeous car that just doesn't seem to date.

Oi Tata, you should have just updated this, not created a huge lump of nothingness like you did.

I would be interested to understand the MPG your getting. Im looking to trade in the Cooper S end of the summer for something larger. Been looking at 9-3's, E46's but always coming back to Jaguars and at the moment its between a X-Type and X350's.

I've only done a few hundred miles in it so can't say for sure, but initially I've been getting 18-20MPG in stop start town traffic, 30-32MPG with the cruise set at 70 and around 25 MPG with the cruise set "a bit higher than 70" tongue out

Awesome. I'm glad I'm not the only 'young' person who loves XJ's. I'm 21 and was discussing the X350 or even a mint X308 as my next car and I received the biggest WTF look ever from my friends and got recommended a Seat Leon instead!

Is your insurance through a broker?

Also, what has the reaction been among your peers? biggrin

Yes, it is amazingly comfortable. I did actually consider the Cooper JCW and I do remember people saying the MPG was poor: I guess if you're going to have your wallet raped you might as well do it in comfort!

I've never fully researched brokers: I tried a couple nearly 2 years ago with my first car and they gave me stupid quotes so I never really looked at them again. I've used admiral group ever since and have found them to be reasonable. My friends love it so far, had a few old man comments but I did expect that. Would much rather have this than a corsa sxi tongue out

Not bad at all for 18! (I'm 19 and in a 14 year old Micra wink ). Looking for own car at the moment and have to say an XJ is mighty tempting, but sadly my insurance quotes haven't been too fantastic. But I will get one at some point biggrin
