Boxster wins CSCC Modern Classics race
Discussion
JJ Littman and Dave Clark drove together to win in the former's Boxster 3.2S in the Classic Sports Car Club's (CSCC) "Modern Classics" race yesterday (14 April) at Snetterton, on the 200 circuit. It was only Littman's second race for over 10 years (the first being last weekend) and his first ever win!
The 40 min race for one or two drivers featured a 20 car entry and there were good battles for the lead between the Littman/ Clark Boxster, the BMW E46 of James Card and his father, the BMW E36 of Smith and Moulton-Smith and the Porsche 911 of Dave Whelan. The winning Boxster beat Smith and Moulton-Smith by just 5.5 seconds at the end. Further down the field there were several other good close battles in the lower capacity classes.
Modern Classics is a new series for 2013 and replaces the "Deutsche Marque" series that the CSCC previously ran for German cars only in 2011 and 2012. The series now features all marques of sports car, GT and Saloon up to year 2000 (along with previous Deutsche Marque cars, which have grandfather rights).
The winning Boxster (prepared to the BRSCC's Boxster series regs) wasn't even in the top class of the series, that being for cars of greater capacity than 3.2 litres. The Boxster beat cars such as a Porsche 964, 993 RSR, 968 and a Ferrari 355 as well as the aforementioned BMWs
The lower capacity classes included Lotus Elise, Mazda MX5.

I think that is a very creditable achievement. Their race times were pretty similar so also a very good job.
I managed 9th overall and 3rd in class in the Future Classics. I have not raced for a long time and it was the SSE's first time out since it was built three years ago. So not too bad for straight out of the box. I reckon I was an average 2 seconds a lap off the winning pace of the 964 C2 and Stuart in the 3.2. Messed up the fuel and finished with almost half a tank of juice but far better than running out.
There's a few things we need to take a look at and it won't be right for Brands in 3 weeks but we'll make some inrodes into it but overall very pleased with the result.
I would say that I thought the standard of driving was very good. The guys and girl are mindfull that smashing cars up makes it a very expensive hobby and the whole event has a very nice vibe about it.
Early afternoon there were five of us sitting on a trailer having a natter and a chap a few yards down who none of us knew came over with five bacon rolls. Top man

Stuart J was pretty close to the class winning 964 in Future Classics at the end, probably as close as he has ever been to winning the class! He'll get there one day. Good to see a few air cooled cars out.
The 964 re-fuelled straight after the Future Classics race and went straight out to the collecting area for the Modern Classics 40 min race! A very fine effort, especially as they were in the mix in that race too, 5th overall.
I think across all of the CSCC series there is enough Porsches to have a one off Porsche only race. How about it? Classes for up to 2.5 litres; 2.5 to 3.0; 3.0 to 4.0 and > 4.0 maybe?

The CSCC calendar for 2013 is here:

Oulton Park on Sept 21st - always a very popular meeting.

You should still come out and play.
If the club has a slot to fill later in the year and is looking for a grid to fill it, I'll suggest a Porsche only race for our Porsche owning members and maybe a few guests. Probably a sprint race.

ill hopefully see you at anglesey if i get my finger out! we do a load of lightweight panels to get your 924s down to flyweight, bonnet, fr wings doors (if its got a good cage), roof, bumpers badge panel. just a thought!
Thanks Mark, I've got a light weight bonnet fitted and front wings to fit sometime. I might need a badge panel at some point as I want to remove the lights, but the doors are probably a no as its only a bolt in cage.Hope to see you at Anglesey; hopefully in the "Modern Classics" race!
