Hi Folks,
Hopefully someone can help here. The car has done this 3 times to me recently. I start the car after a drive, so engine is warm-hot, the car seems to idle ok, but when i try to pull away the car holds back like fuel isn't getting in or mixture is badly wrong. I also noticed the MIL light was on as well. If i stop the car and switch it off, then start her up again, then all is fine. Any ideas?

I spoke to Andy at APM about it today and he suggested it maybe fuel evaporation in the fuel pipes, which results in air being trapped in the fuel pipe. When i spoke to him about this i hadn't noticed the MIL light on, I only saw it later today when the car did it again after I left the gym. 1) Would the MIL light come on with fuel evaporation?, and 2) would just stopping and starting the car fix it?

I'm supposed to be off to RAF Marham this weekend, so a little worried, as its quite a long trip.

Cheers for your help

Steve

If the MIL light comes on then there should be a corresponding fault logged in the ecu. Have you looked to see if there are any faults logged?

I don't have the software and leads etc to check for codes. I might get her booked in with Andy now i know she is logging an error.

I would go with this, they tend to eat lambda sensors, just had mine done after it digested one at Spa.

Hi Gruff,
Its now booked in with APM Auto. Do these Lambda sensors just cause an intermittent fault like i have? or will the fault become more frequent to the point where it will be there all the time?
Cheers

So the lamba sensors control the air fuel mixture at low revs once the revs go high the ecu takes over ref joolz hope this helps

they often start to go and become a little unresponsive giving occasional MIL light warnings and get worse with time.

Quick fix, about £55 if I remember correctly.

Yep, landrover disco V8 lambda sensors, around £50-£60.

So would the lambda reset then when i stop and re-start the car? because the car is fine after stopping and restarting?

Cheers

They can do but then they stop working after a bit.

No need to miss anything, I did 2 days at Spa on a track day with the MIL light on and oNe dead Lambda sensor absolutely fine just lacking a little performance.
