Advise needed - Agency non-payment

To set the scene... I'm an IT contractor and was working for a global network security firm via an agency, I only have 3 contacts at the agency (based in Swindon) - the recruiting agent, payroll and a director, I'm based in the NW so I've never met them.
Anyway this agency have never been the quickest of payers and I have had to chase them on several occasions but they have always paid up.. Until now.
I left my role last month, handed my notice in and started a new contract, the old agency owe me 6 weeks pay which should have been paid in full a week ago. I emailed the accounts/payroll contact only to get a non-delivery... Hmmm the alarm bells start ringing, so I then email both the recruiter and director... I get another NDR from the recruiters address, however the email is delivered to the director.
I try calling him several times, but he doesn't answer but eventually he replies to the email all polite on Friday apologising and promising to look into it and get back to me, roll forward to today and still nothing.
The agency is still registered with companies house also.
So today I've emailed him again stating their breach of contract and demanding payment within 24 hours or I will start legal proceedings to recover what is owed.
Does anyone have any advice and experience they can offer?
