Why did I bother ffs

Having spent weeks prepping the engine bay pending my new jed motor it looked terrific - new heat shields, resprayed bay, por15 chassis etc.

Engine in time, how exciting! 10 hours later trying to lift in the engine I have scratched the fu**ing lot and the engine is still not fitted. I tried everything to get the angles right and slide the sucker in to no avail. An hour ago I just realised why! There is a dowel pin in the gearbox and a new dowel pin fitted on the new engine. So it's engine out and dowel removal time and start all over again. Hopefully I can touch up the damage but pi**ed off right now as I have made a bit of a pigs ear of it.

Any tips on dowel removal?

Should be enough, hot air gun might even be enough

At a guess the engine pin will be the new one, try removing that one first

Job done thanks, needed blow torch but managed to get the old one out of the gearbox. All I have to do know is lift the engine back in!

Chin up Ian. I know how depressing it can be putting the odd scratch on your newly prepped and painted engine bay. Its just a fact of life though, no matter how careful you are building cars, its almost impossible to avoid those odd little scratches.

Much happier today, lifted engine out to remove offending dowel, fitted radiator amazingly without scratches, and engine is back in, bolted up and mounts fitted! Even managed to touch up scratches on chassis.

As my misses says take your time if you want satisfaction guaranteed

I forgot to mention the day at work before I started!!

All other bits to bolt on, power steering to plumb in, new harness to work out, upgraded fuel pump and filter to plumb in then its on a trailer back to the engine builder for setting up. Unlikely to be driving for another week or so .......... but the best things come to those that wait!
