Freelander 2 Rear Brakes Knackered
Discussion
Our Freelander 2 has just gone in for its second service, at just over 20K miles. The diff needs a repair under warranty, but the mechanic says the rear disks, pads and shoes all need replacing.
I have challenged the warranty on this - according to the mechanic, I have been driving around with the handbrake on. Now, to do that I would need to be blind (warning light) deaf(alarm) and have no sense of smell...
I have a theory that the rear brakes have suffered because of the diff fault - if the diff is not working, the anti-lock systems would get very confused in corners. Also, vehicle dynamics dictate that the front brakes do most of the work, so why is it that the rears are so bad over such a short mileage? The sacrificial part of the braking system is the pad, not the disk, and in any case a binding handbrake would only account for the shoes...
Either it is down to a fault, or the mechanics at Peter Vardy get bonused on the extra work they manage to generate....
