Well that's a first - but if it's going to be any good it won't be cheap. Not a requirement for my toolbox though.

Want!
I suppose I'll need to buy a body to use it on - any suggestions for what I can buy with a half eaten Toblerone, £2.68, 2.5mm right angle allen key, and some Sainbury's vouchers?

I had hoped you were about to reveal they've replaced the SD15 with the 16, offering a higher pixel count sensor and mucho improvo high ISO - all for £499 with this lens included.
Ah well.......<sigh!>

Sony A and Pentax K mountings will come in due course, with the market share the other two have, it's understandable they're gearing up for making the most return from their investment in the shortest amount of time.

Sold the A65 at the start of the year, bought a (barely pre-owned) Fuji X-S1 bridge.

Sounds good... let us know prices when you hear. Will I have to sell my dog to buy one? Then again, he's probably worth a lens cap.

If you sell your dog that only leaves the mountain to photograph...

There are quite a few lenses in their line-up that do not come in K mount, so it is by no means certain this one ever will.

Looks an interesting lens, puts crop shooters closer to parity with 2.8 shooting ff users.

Will be cool to see how well it works

Quite, but I suspect this one will.
I'm sure they've been monitoring various boards to see what potential numbers there are for it.
Iirc, Pentax use Tokina for some of their lenses, so there's nothing to say they wouldn't buy production time from Sigma for their own version, assuming Sigma were not against such an OEM agreement.

Pah! No IS. Useless.

(etc., etc.)

AND it's not available in mount Olympus. Or Lecia. No asprination from Sigma at all. Better off with a Lensbaby.

The thing that crossed my mind is that as it's a 'first' will they be relying on that to be it's main selling point, rather than manufacturing something that really is as good as we'd hope? And don't Sigma have a reputation for making a lens with decent focal range but a bit soft where it counts?

I would suspect from the mtf. That it is usable wide open and tbh if it isn't there's no point in it existing.

When did all photographers develop Parkinsons?
