Just bought some seal to go between the targa panel and the tops of the door glass for my '94 Chim as it has the wrong (later) seal at the moment.

Could someone with the early seal take a couple of quick pics of which way round the seal fits in the L shaped channels at the edges of the targa and how the seal should sit against the door glass when the door is closed?

Cheers

2 words for that seal ...king crap!!

I am sick of the seal partly coming out when opening and shutting door with window up..

Anyone glued these in?

They have to be glued ... Certainly on my roof there's no channel for the seal to sit in, just a flat surface for it to be glued to.

I used Loctite 406 previously and that seal is going nowhere ... God knows how I'll get it off to put on the new (old) one. :-)

Phil, why wouldn't you fit two rails & slide in the better Mk2 seals?

Do this, & I would have thought you'll get a better and easier to replace seal.

My seals simply slide out of the rail, easy peasy, and the seal with he window (while not absolutely perfect) is a huge improvement over the Mk1 glued in type I've seen.

Am I missing something, are the roof edges different is some way making fitting the rails difficult?

My rails are just screwed to the roof edges using small TVR patented quick release fixings (self tappers).

wink

I have the rails and slide in seals, and the seal still comes out of the runner from time to time, especially after removing the targa. I thought the rails were standard as mine is a 94.
Was thinking of a little smear of silicone to hold it in place. And the way the glass seals againt it varies from day to day.

DITTO only concern with sticking with silicone or sicoflex, isgetting the old adhesive out of the channel if you have to change a damaged seal

My roof doesn't have the channels / rails screwed to the sides as per the pic above and there's no indication that it ever had (no screw holes). It did have the original "early" seals which were ripped to shreds and so I replaced them with the later seals which fit beautifully but left a huuuuge gap between the top of the window and the seal.

Now, I can adjust the window to come up another 5mm or so so that it seals against the new seal when the door is closed but then you can't get the door open as the glass top is above the level of the sides of the seal - the seal "face" being concave.

(I assume the later cars drop the widow very slightly when you hit the door release under the mirror?)

If I adjust the glass to clear the sides of the seal so that the door opens then it doesn't seal against the seal when the door is closed so you get the wind blowing past.

This is the two types of seal and how they appear to fit against the window...

a bit off topic\1 has anyone replaced the door to window seals, does the window have to come out?

Not that I have seen. Mine certainly doesn't.

I have just replaced mine which are the glue on type. First effort didn't go too well. Bought 2 more then tried again. Better this time but still pretty poor fit.

I think the only answer is to retro fit the later types. Has anyone done this and if so were there any issues?

I retro fitted the later channels and seals on mine, they do come out if you catch them climbing in the car but are a much nicer seal than the old ones, if you set them in with silicone its not the end of the world to replace the whole lot in the event that they get torn

Which way round do you have the seals and how do you get the door glass to seal against the later rubber whilst still being able to get the door open?
