For those that are interested, a coleague of mine forwarded this link to program which is on youtube about the "Thursday War", a series of exercises warships go through to be passed as operational.

It's quite old (from ~'89), but the RN still conduct these tests and most Thursdays the same event takes place (although, now they do it off the coast of Plymouth).

I remember the Thursday War with fondness, they were exciting, seeing the Hawks and Hunters screaming in below mast height to attack, but at the time I hated them.

Anyway, enjoy, this is part 1 of 9, links to the other parts will be on the same page.

I was fortunate enough to get a seat in a Hunter T8 during this exercise. It was more fun than being onboard

I can remember doing them between '72 and '78 and seeing the Portland based boats Scimitar and Sabre (gas turbine fast patrol boats) chasing us frigates and giving us the run-around.

Tuesday Adex's / Thursday war's are ste.

Because

1. Your in Guz

2. The FOST wreckers kill the ship by throwing a diesel offline (to simulate a hit) which then kills power to all the equipment which then causes real defects because the equipment is old and fragile which then means (and has happened to me numerous times) where ive lost a weekend leave to wait for spare parts to then fix the equipment. And they wonder why were short on spares and spend £0000's aquiring new parts.

3. Plus many many more reasons why i hate Thursday wars but only a Matelot would understand.

What's wrong with Guzz? Much better than Pompey. ;-)
