Yep, another 1st World Problem.

I probably should know this but I don't have time to experiment with it.

On a Garmin (Edge 200) what happens when you pause a ride?

I'm doing London to Brighton on Saturday and ideally I'd like to have it recorded as one ride. We'll be stopping regularly along the way and a longer stop for some lunch. I'd have thought the sensible thing would be to disable the auto off function and then to just pause the ride every time we stop for a significant amount of time, what I don't want to happen is for the unsaved ride up to that point to vanish or not get saved. Would it be better to do that <<< or, just leave it on auto pause and do nothing, or, save and start again at every stop to ensure the whole thing gets logged?

Stop and start is fine, done that before (I normally just have it on auto pause).

You'll be left with two times at the end, elapsed and moving (once you've uploaded it to whatever software you use, ie Garmin Connect)

If it's anything like my Garmin 310XT GPS watch, then you can pause it as much as you want, for what seems like as long as you want, and it will all get processed as one ride.

However when you log the ride at the end, on Strava or whatever it is you use, there will be some large gaps in your ride. They do give you a moving time and total time breakdown though.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I'm not to bothered about the elapsed and moving thing but know what you mean.

I'm guessing that disabling the auto off bit is key? Also will it go nuts if during the stop it drops out of GPS signal then finds it again before we set off?

I would disable the auto-pause and auto-sleep timeouts, and just start at the start and stop at the end. Otherwise you will forget to restart after one of the stops and then kick yourself when you remember 10 miles down the road.

Garmin Connect still shows overall moving time, stopped time and calculates average moving speed whether you pause or not.

Just leave it on auto-pause.

I made the mistake of using the stop/start button on my 705 at a cafe stop at one point of the C2C we did last year, but forgot to start again as we set off, so there is a point of about 15 minutes of unrecorded ride. banghead

I've done that. Inexplicably annoying isn't it!

My wife is doing L2B on Saturday too. She'll be leaving her Garmin 800 on auto pause and just doing a reset at the end.

Weather forecast is looking good. Will be better than when I rode it last year.

Especially when you realise that for 15mins your Garmin's been saying "oi, you're moving, push start!!!" hehe

Thanks, that's good to know, I was hoping it would do that.

On my 500, you can turn it on and off on and off and keep 'adding' to the ride. It's only when you actually reset it does it start from zero again.

What a great day for L2B. Decent weather all day. Wife managed about four and a half hours. Good going as she only returned to cycling last year. That doubled her longest ride from the previous weekend.
