Following my breaking of 5th gear, has anybody got or know of a low mileage 6 speed box for sale? Wanting one to go for strengthening before Jetstream fit it to my car with a few other bits.

I know its not very helpful right now as its probably a good few months away but when an upgraded sequential box becomes available I will sell my spare 6 speed box.

Paul, buy a new box & have converted / strengthened. Having a used box done in no way ensures you won't have the same issue with 5th, as l found out to my cost !

If you get a new box and then have it shot peened etc. Your will be looking at about 4-5 K

Yeah hoping to have the car sorted by June graham in time for a Spa/Ring trip.
I just read through the thread from last year about your problem Kev, whats the rough cost of a new box, assuming you can still get them from Ford?

2nd had is fine but I would get a 2nd had one from a ford not a Noble. My 5 spd had 42k on it second hand from a mondeo gearbox man said it was in great condition before he worked his magic.

Yes think I will go the 2nd hand route, as nice as a new one would be, 4k is a lot of money. Am I right in thinking its about 1k for the gearboxman's work?
Dave at Jetstream has advised I get hold of a low mileage one if I can as mine has done 38k miles

Give me a pm and I'll talk you through it and the costs, if you like. I did the 5 to 6 speed conversion last summer

I bought a gearbox for £200 on eBay. Bernie at CTS won't upgrade a 6 speed that has already been in a Noble, but will upgrade a box if it is low mileage and from the relevant ford. The reason is that in the ford it won't be subjected to the kind if load cycles we out it through once in the Noble

if you can weld say 5th and 6th gear together the load will be transmitted across 2 sets of splines

has anyone got a photo of 5th gear on the shaft ?

Slightly off topic but I am picking up my 3R (6 speed) next Saturday, Bespoke rebuilt the gearbox and replaced the clutch 2000 miles ago due to 5th gear going. Is this issue likely to recur? The box has not been uprated but rebuilt to standard spec I believe!

Cheers

Ross
