I am told that you can adjust the basic suspention of the GT3 to make it similar to the RS. Is that true? What are the other benefits of the RS then besides its weight claims? Otherwise why pay the premium of the RS?

Thanks

RS is 50kg lighter, and has a single mass flywheel, as aposed to a dual mass fly wheel of normal GT3, i think this is for better throttle response, but don't quote me on that.

I think the GT3 suspension is fully adjustable, so should be able to be lowered to RS height and stiffness, this is obviously better for track use, but will certainly compromise road manners.

RS's seem still to be commanding over list, which i don't think is worth the amount of difference from a standard GT3 of about £20k.

I have i GT3 CS, and love it so much, that i want to be buried in it !!!!

if you mean the 996 GT3 RS then it has the same rear suspension as the 997. Heard this in Helsinki recently from a dealer.

I thought the 997 suspension was this new electronc PASM gismo stuff, and nothing like the 996 type ??

Could not agree more. But then again everyone says it is a killer on track. that is why I wonder if it is more than suspension change.

Here's one for you. The crank in the GT3 RS is basically the crank from the 930....

apart from weight and suspension...the GT3 Rs owners i know tell me they are coming out at 400bhp on a decent rolling road..
get an RS if you can it will hold it's money better than a mk2 Gt3 anyhow....quite a few prefer the Mk1 for it's precision over the mk2.

Some of the RS differences include :

only available in white
carbon fibre bonnet
carbon fibre spoiler
perspex rear screen
single-mass flywheel
fire extinguisher
better suspension setup
less weight

as for the power figures - some of the MkII owners are also seeing close to 400bhp as standard.. The GT3 owners I have talked to about it (even the ones with expensive aftermarket suspension) agree that the RS is on a different level on track

Forgot to say that some of the 'premium' appears to be levelling out now.. You should be able to pick up a decent 2004 with low miles for around £80k...

Cheers

Steve

It is a very hard call between any of the GT3's they are all brillant, if money is not an issue then the RS is the fastest on track out of the box!
But from experience on track only the most focused drivers in an RS will make the difference between the cars. A well set up MK1 or MK2 will be on the pace its just a matter of sorting out the suspension. Still the ace up the sleeve for the RS is it looks like a race car which makes the driver look like a race driver and there will always be a premium for that!

The GT3RS suspension is different from the MkII. It was produced to homologate it for racing on GT3 Cup Cars (in Europe I think).

Weight saving was quoted at 50kg but was negated by putting back the air conditioning at 35kg!

I do know of a 14 mile GT3RS that is available (or was on Monday) at list price if you are interested. (Not mine!).

Glen

Yes it was a blast last time out at Bedford lets hope for a dry day again on the 30th October, I think we proved there is nothing between a MK1 & Mk2 both fitted with cups!!
Most of the guys going on the 30th are on the GT3@titanic.co.uk register,

See you there

...didn't they adjust the suspension mounting positions on the RS to get a better geometry rather than use the original mountings with modified lowered suspension? The RS therefore has better manners when being pushed and can cope with unsetting bumps mid corner.
