Some of you may think i'm crazy but i wanted something with a little more soul. I loved my 9 but there was something missing and after looking at the older V8s, Virages and 7s, I decided to go with a manual 7V. I miss the sound of the old car but at the same time the 7 does have a lot more charm and the reactions i get from other people are even more positive than with the 9!

It's always sad when i hear people say its not a proper Aston. These cars have always borrowed parts. We wouldn't be celebrating 100yrs of AM were it not for the 7. To me, it feels, smells and looks like an AM should. I hope these cars start getting the proper recognition they deserve (within AM circles too). Can't believe how cheap the straight 6s are now. Mine will be a keeper.

p.s. i love all AMs.

I agree entirely, they are both great, albeit, very different cars. The "DB9" is a modern purpose designed car which provides a tremendous ride quality, a car that exudes class and that is built to a very high standard using the latest technologies.
The "DB7V", on the other hand, is not the easiest to drive, it suffers from a cramped cockpit and is definitely a car that was created on the basis of using as many existing "Ford Group" parts as possible, in order to bring the car in on a budget. Nonetheless, the overall result is remarkable, the car looks stunning and has character in abundance.
Personally, I opted to go for character when recently making a choice between the two cars, but it wasn't an easy decision to reach.

I think the DB7 will age better than the DB9. A friend of mine actually thought it was a relatively new Aston (after I got it detailed). Agree, the cockpit is cramped esp with a manual car but I have managed to get two small kids in the back, which was a nightmare in the 9.

mid July I will drive from Paris to Cornwall with my wife and my 16 year dauther in the 7,I could not do that in the 9 as the rear seats a alot more cramped;the DB7 a real family car!

Interesting post... When I went from DB7 to DB9, I almost went back!! 9 was too smooth, too quiet, too modern at first, I had to 'engineer' some character into it... Now I wouldn't have any other car, it's a joy to drive fast or slow.

My 7 was a TouchTronic version... I think that if I had been brave and bought a manual to start with, I would probably still be driving it now scratchchin

If my memory serves me correctly, you made a number of improvements to your DB7 V.V. and which I believe were detailed on the AMOC Forum. It is interesting that you make the point about the manual gear box, as I think this is the reason that I have become so closely attached to my 7's, before buying the DB7 V.V. I had been driving a couple of Jags (which I have kept for everyday use and quite frankly it makes no sense selling them on for next to nothing) which are very comfortable and easy drives being auto's, however, once I had the chance to drive a manual again it was a tremendous contrast, I really do feel connected to the cars and love the fact that there is simply more to do as the driver of a manual car. Just over a year ago I was looking to locate a DB9 with a manual gear box when I spotted a 7 G.T. going for sensible money and the lure was just to great to resist.
