There are two reasons why I don't implement it. One would be the not insignificant load on the database for a fairly minor reward and secondly I think it discourages people from posting.
The Gassing Station has a homely feel (IMHO
) because you don't feel like you're being watched. A viewcount highlights the fact that there are hundreds of lurkers out there.
Most popular threads are read several hundred times.

Pistonheads is the only forum software I like because Ted has an eye for simplicity and ease of use, which is one of the reasons PH is so sucessful.
Some of the sites I've used in the past use every feature available (Avatars, Signatures etc.) which make them difficult on the eye, and make information difficult to find, in these days of information overload something which does what it says on the tin is just what we need.
Even the BT&P lot managed to post when completely sloshed last year, testament to the gassing stations quality!
As Ted mentioned, the cons outway the pros (more server load = more servers needed), and it would get away from the simple ethos.
I'm in IT and have written forum applications in the past, so I'm not an IT numpty!
