Help with cake for Daughter ..
Discussion
It is my daughter's birthday tomorrow and she would like me to make her a 'simple' cake. Some sort of chocolatie sponge with whipped cream in the middle.
I'm not a bad cook, but only main courses. I have never cooked a cake in my life.
Can anyone give me recipes and/or ideas? (that isn't my idea of sneaking off to the supermarket ..)
Thank you for your help.

Easy....
Take 4 eggs (in their shells). Weigh them and then use the weight of the eggs in butter/marg, sugar
and self raising flour
So....if your 4 eggs weigh 8 ounces you use 8 ounces of the other ingredients....
then , 1 tea spoon of baking powder (optional - don't worry if you haven't got any). Then add two or three table spoons of cocoa powder (if you remember take out about the same amount of flour but don't worry if you forget).
Either lob it all in a mixer and mix it up together OR cream the butter and sugar before adding the flour, eggs, cocoa powder and baking powder (if used). Mix it for a bit.
I then chuck the mixture into a mid sized roasting tin lined with baking/greaseproof paper - or use two sponge tins either lined or greased. Cook at around 170 degrees for probably 40 minutes or so for a roasting tin or c. 20 minutes if in sponge tins.
Buy whipped cream and whip it (you need a whisk type attachment to whip cream in a machine). Google fudge icing and add chocolate fudge icing to the top.
Dead simple, dead nice

Well done, the cake looks good and I bet your daughter is impressed. 7oz icing sugar
1oz cocoa powder
3oz butter
2 tbsp milk
Melt butter, add sugar and cocoa, beat well, add milk leave to thicken.
If you use this icing recipe it should say that you make it in a saucepan over a low heat, so melt the butter and then add the rest whilst heating very gently - sorry, it isn't very clear from my original post.
