British hillclimb championship - 2013
Discussion
Any predictions for this year? First round is at Prescott in a few weeks..
Looks like Paul Haimes is back, with a turbocharged version of the GR59, the second on the hills.
There's also two raptors on the hills this year, will be interesting to see how Steve Day adapts to the car, and obviously whether Jos will be able to progress higher up the championship - he's running a new paddleshift gearbox and methanol fueling this year I believe.
It's also going to be interesting to see whether Will Hall can keep with the top guys this season, and if Wallace Menzies can win a few more rounds!
Shaping up to be a great season.

I'm hoping to head to Harewood again this season. Not sure if I'll make any other rounds. I understand the Spa-Judd is back out again to play. Not seen that since Loton 2008. Makes quite the spectacle...
The spa will be at harewood/Barbon so I'm looking forward to seeing that. Will update this thread with results/pictures so will hopefully help people keep up.Skylinecrazy said:

Tom Brown's running it this year, Brutal sounding car!

Guessing it's raining/damp down at Prescott, as the times look weird!

So did many of you go? Will post full results up tomorrow.
Scott Moran in total control today, a good half a second quicker than anyone! Well done Darren Luke on the class record (I know you're on here)
Not sure what was up with Jos Goodyears raptor, but it wasn't running properly all day! Good result for Alex Summers who finished a stunning second in the first run off.

Got a ton of pics, and vids. Shame about the targa 911.
Tempted to give it a go

Was keeping an eye on it on results man, Alexs performance on the first run looked excellent from the time board. He tells me there were issues with the throttle butterflies in the afternoon meaning he couldn't get full throttle, didnt seem to hold him back too much though! Round one results
Scott Moran
Alex Summers
Roger Moran
Wallace Menzies
Jos Goodyear
Trevor Willis
Richard Spedding
Will Hall
Eynon Price
Deryk Young
Simon Moyse
John Bradburn
Another near enough perfect run from Scott Moran, as he took the first round by nearly half a second! Alex Summers as said above, took a brilliant second place, splitting the Moran pairing up. Wallace menzies in 4th had a massive moment coming under the bridge, which must have cost him some time. Jos Goodyear was 5th, but there was clearly something wrong with the car. (it sounded like there was anyway!)
At the middway point, John Bradburn was nearly half a second up on anyone else, but sadly spun off on the final corner.
Round two results
Scott Moran
Roger Moran
Trevor Willis
Will Hall
John Bradburn
Deryk Young
Alex Summers
Jos Goodyear
Steven Day
Graham Wynn
Simon Moyse
Simon Fidoe
Another masterful showing by the Morans, with the father son combination being the only ones to go under the 38 second mark in the run off. Trevor Willis was third, still getting used to the new car, after finishing 6th in the first. Will Hall in absolutely gorgeous sounding Force Nissan took 4th, with John Bradburn recovering from his spin to take 5th. A big well done to Graham Wynn in the Force 'sportscar' and Simon Fidoe in the 1000CC Empire for making the second run off.
Sadly, there were a few retirements before the second run off, this included the Wallace Menzies DJ, and the Price/Spedding Force with driveshaft problems.

Right, the next three rounds have taken place this weekend.
Although sadly I couldn't get to Barbon (I was on holiday) I heard bad things about it, and only one run off took place, before the event was cancelled - the results for this, are below:
Trevor Willis
Wallace Menzies
John Bradburn
Will Hall
Scott Moran
Roger Moran
Richard Spedding
Eynon Price
Mike Manning
Only 9 scoring competitiors, after crashes and incidents to Alex Summers and Graham Wynn in the Force LM Sports car.
Round 4 was canceled due to weather conditions...
Onto Harewood
Round 5
Roger Moran
Trevor Willis
Scott Moran
Will Hall
Wallace Menzies
Richard Spedding
Eynon Price
Derek Young
John Bradburn
Dave Uren
Mike Manning
Nicola Menzies
Sadly Jos Goodyear was absent this weekend, in his newly developed Raptor.
After some weird weather conditions, the run off took place in constant drizzle, meaning the track was more greasy than actual wet.
Alex Summers sadly didn't make the cut in the first run off, as his car stopped on the track, another absentee from the run off, was the GR59 of Simon Moyse, who spun out.
Roger Moran ran third, and was never topped, to take his first win of the season, closely followed home by Trevor Willis who is still getting to grips with the new car. Scott Moran as consistent as ever, finished third. Fourth was Wallace Menzies, in his popping and banging DJ Firestorm now running on methanol, Wallace will be contesting outright wins this season. 5th and 6th was the Spedding/Price force, which is a good effort, considering they're both running naturally aspirated 1600 Hayabusa engines. Another brilliant effort to Mike Manning, who managed to qualify his ex 650BHP rallycross ford puma for the second run off in a row!
Round 6
Scott Moran
Wallace Menzies
Roger Moran
Derek Young
Will Hall
John Bradburn
Alex Summers
Eynon price
Dave Uren
Richard Spedding
Lee Griffiths
Trevor Willis
Another Win for the somewhat dominate Moran family, this time for son and championship leader, Scott. Wallace Menzies really pushed to claim second, from the ever consistent Roger Moran. Fourth, was the ex Graheme Wright Junior Gould GR51 in the hands of Deryk Young, and fifth, Will hall in the Nissan powered Force - WIll's had a good season so far, only finishing outside the top 5 on one occasion. The main name missing from the top, is Trevor Willis, who put two wheels on the grass and span off meaning no points for the reigning champion.
Championship standings after 5 rounds
Scott Moran 44
Roger Moran 40
Trevor Willis 32
Wallace Menzies 31
Will Hall 30
John Bradburn 21
Alex Summers 18
Deryk Young 16
Richard Spedding 14
Eynon Price 12
Jos Goodyear 9

Sadly Darren ended up going headlong into a wall at the final hairpin, but I'm sure he's much more excited about his Juno that's being prepared - was nice to meet you mate!

Good day at Harewood with the usual eclectic mix of machinery. The Nissan engined Force sounded marvellous and the Puma was astounding.I was also amazed at some of the speed trap readings- have they moved it closer to Quarry ? 120 plus used to be very quick but fastest I saw was 149...Having driven up there in a Caterham at 80 ish nearly 150 would certainly focus the mind. As ever , I fail to understand why 99% of spectators stay at the top. Panoramic view yes but going down to startline and watching take off , Chippy's (tragically I am old enough to remember Chippy Stross) and especially Country gives a far better view close up.
Speed gun still in the same spot so must be technology that's moved on. I'm doing 100+ in a Jedi which is old technology and pretty sure Pilbeams etc of Roy Lanes era must have been 120+ so I guess it's better power to weight of the newer cars combined with quicker exit out of farmhouse due to better aero and mechanical grip etc.. 145 ish must be something as quarry looms!
Totally agree with spectating lower down. It would be great if the bottom near chippys and willow could be developed with seating, timing board, tea/coffee etc. you get a much better sense of speed and it's warmer! Ideally a tractor pulling trailer with seats doing shuttle runs back to he top. Or better still an access road for cars down to the infield with the farm converted into a catering facility with toilets, main offic, paddock, etc..
