Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to PH, and would like some advice - I really, really love TVR's, and am seriously considering purchasing a Tuscan BUT am put off by all the tales of woe I've read and heard about, particularly when it comes to reliability. What I'd like are some tales of reassurance (I'm sure there're some around!), as I'm sure that people are only really vocal about the bad bits/experiences (in the same way that mates only b*tch about their other halves to you, rather than telling you about all the nice nights they have in together).

and welcome. Currently in a Merc CLk230 Kompressor, 2001. Sounds weak, but I've toyed with her here and there (ECU remap, power free flow catalytic converters, ramair induction kit and a new AMG-style quad exhaust sytem). Hoping to do a few more bits in the next year, but I have an itch only a tuskie can scratch....
Jan 2003 Tuscan 4.0 purchased new. 12,500 miles. No engine probs whatsoever. Very minor detail issues only (what new car doesn't have one or two) which were sorted by the dealer without fuss.
The car is absofurkinglutely fantastic and I have never regretted buying it for one minute. I still get a thrill every time I turn the key and hear that engine.
Unfortunately most people who have reliable cars don't post on here and many of the people who do post in a derogatory manner have never owned one.

Thanks Paul - just the kind of thang I need to hear! I'm in the position where I know what I like (TVR's) but there's loads of rumours saying the woman of my dreams (Tuscana) is a bit of a biter, and not in a good way! 
How were your E-Types? That's another one on The Tip's shopping list....

The E types were great, I had 2. Still think the S1 FHC is the best looking car ever made. They are still quick (not Tuscan quick though) and are huge fun to drive, particularly a 3.8 with a Moss 'box. I had a brand new 4.0 XJS at the same time as the 3.8 E and I reckoned the E was quicker. The only problem is rust. I had 2 over ten years. The second had a bare metal re-spray and I kept it in a carcoon but I still had to deal with rust on a regular basis.
I don't pretend to know enough about the Speed 6 issues and don't want to get embroiled in the arguments.
However, I'd suggest speaking to those who've moved (or are moving) from V6/V8 TVRs to the S6 (or repeat customers), especially those who famous in PH terms - these people will have been through all the arguments, read the pros and cons and made an informed decision on whether to hand over their hard-earned.

It will be the best thing you’ve ever spent money on. As Hobo and says, buy one with a 2003 engine (or late 2002 IMHO) and you’re very unlikely to get any problems. Mine is a mid 2002 car which had a rebuild at the beginning of 2003. Since then it’s covered over 24,000 miles and the engine just keeps getting smoother.
I must also echo Unrepentant – many of the people that post negatively about the Tuscan are just jumping on the band wagon and most likely have never even been in one let alone owned one.

yeh thats human nature:
1) some of the ones that have had no problems, hate the others for talking about their problems, refusing to believe they exist since they havn't had them.
2) some of the ones with problems have gotten very bitter with their experiences and that comes out in their comments.
As an owner with a car I love which may or may not have problems I seem myself somewhere in the middle.
All I'd say, is that's why you need to do your own searching through the forums and make your own mind up.
IMHO the 'i see no ships' brigade are just as much a pain in the ass as the 'tvr are a bunch of wa$%$kers and I'd never buy another one' brigade.

I am a pretty new Tuscan owner. Bought 2001 Y plate (already had the engine work done) in May and have loved it ever since! This is my only car and although I work from home I usually have to do a 150mile round trip commute to the office twice a week, regardless of the weather. So long as your right foot is not made of lead all the time I have found her to be not problem yet in the torrential rain that usually comes whenever I need to go to the office!
Running costs have not been bad either with the only problem so far being the speedo playing up, needs a new transducer, bit of a waiting list but I'm kind of getting used to it flicking all over the place!
In short, get your wallet out and get buying, the grin on your face will be worth it. Trust me there is very little out there that will give you the same great feeling.

Just get one. I looked into it before getting my Tuscan 2001 13.5K on the clock top end rebuild by dealer before I picked it up. Get it from a good dealer (you have recourse and warrantly) I found HHC in Harrogate to be really helpful, and Honest!!
The car is as sweet as a nut, no problems. Great car that puts a smile on my face everytime i drive.
Like Evostick, only had mine a short while , 3 months in my case.
Some people seem to spend a lot of time concentrating on the downsides, personally there are more good things about the car. It looks , sounds and goes ! in short (in the words on Tony the Tiger) "Grrrrreat !"
