Had my first run out yesterday in the car it was mega with the roof off.
The tapping noise coming from the engine is very loud till you set off,
is this normal. The car is a 2011 model with 5000 miles on the clock.

It its a very light sounding ticking noise its possibly the fuel injectors which is perfectly normal. A heavier more pronounced tapping noise is something to get checked out by your opc.

If the car has been standing for while, could be sticking tapetts. Drive the car hard and it should clear itself after a few mins.

DO NOT DO THIS.

In the event that its not tappets and something more sinister you could do some serious damage. Since your engine is the later DFI version a number of the 'traditional' problems that are highlighted in the link in the previous post have been eradicated. I'm guessing its under warranty so get your OPC to check it out.

I should have perhaps qualified my suggestion by saying if its tappets then it should clear itself by driving hard to get the oil moving around. Best take Trev450s advice because I don't pretend to be a mechanical expert...
