Is it me, or are prices a bit soft at the moment? They seem to be down on even 2 months ago, with seemingly straight <£7k cars not selling.

If / when TVRs ascend to classic car heaven, I have a feeling the Chim will be left behind. The Cerbera isn't doing much better.

I see the prices a lot stronger than they were last year. At the mo, only 12 out of nearly 80 cars for sale are priced below £9k. I'm sure the percentage in previous years was higher.

We've not had much good weather for people to be considering a sports car that can only be used in the summer.

The values will increase, albeit more slowly than the griffith, since the chimaera is much more common and slightly less desirable.

Unless you're selling, why worry? Just enjoy what you've got!

I would like to know what mines worth in this market. Suppose a professional valuation is needed.

Opinions welcome

1996 4.0
Rolex blue
70k
Everything works as it should
New AP racing 5.0 clutch
Serviced every 3/4k by a specialist
Some crazing and stone chipping. I'd rate the paint 7/10
Interior 8/10 - expected wear on seats, some light bleaching but generally very presentable.
Roof a bit faded but being cleaned and Renovo'd next week.
No chassis rot.

I dont think most people care, but I am interested because it's my actual daily car, not a hobby or a toy. I may have to sell it in a few months too as the dreaded first house purchase will inevitably rear it's ugly head towards the end of the year, but summer would be the time to sell it to get the best price.

I'd have been looking to pay ~£4500-£5k for a car described that way.

I know that might seem harsh but I paid £6k for a genuine 20k miler in "immaculate" condition in October.
The interior looked like new, the exterior looked 9/10 and the whole thing could pass for a 6 month old car.

Unfortunately I have been using it every day and now it's a 8/10 exterior and needs a bloody good valet inside!

I wouldn't let it go for less than £8k. It's worth all of that.

£6k for a mint 20,000 miler sounds a bit too good to be true. Is it pink?

Always interested in the opinions of others, don't have to agree with them though.

I'm afraid not.

I also notice that the £6k, 20,000 miler is allegedly worth £9k in the profile description...

You are all having a laugh, my 1996, 4.0, starmist blue that needs a new interior at 94k miles is worth at least 15k - and if you can't afford it - tough!

What's up with you lot and 5 or 6k? Never have I seen a marque so under sell themselves.

I thought the old readies were a bit short at mo, but having a change of lifestyle (gives more time for the chimp) means a caravan and boat are up for grabs, van sold in a week pound notes and near to what I wanted and boat is now on fleabay and its going mad, decent ad and sensible expectations seem key plus a well prepared item for sale, those looking for a good example will be prepared to pay...............I did!!!!

the prices are stupidly low when you see what people will pay for an mg rv8 of similar vintage and they are crap old rust buckets!

It's the same with every luxury at the moment. For 'most' the Chim is a second car. Given the state of the economy and lack of employment at the moment, a large portion of the market don't have the money. A case of supply and demand! If you think you're hard done by, check out the prices of horses... similar running costs to a TVR, but how the values have dropped!!!
