Warminster to bordon
Discussion
I am going to be driving between Warminster and bordon for a few Friday and Sunday evenings and I want as interesting route as possible! I tried one route but was blighted by miles of 50mph limits or Nissan micras, which I know can't be helped, but I was wondering if people knew of any goods roads to sample in between? I am driving a ford puma so while it is not the most powerful thing on the road it is quite good fun in the twisty bits so I might as well exploit it!
Definitely go across the plain from Warminster to the 303. Not sure how familiar you are but basically:
Take the A36 from Heytesbury roundabout down towards Salisbury. Turn left at Knook camp and continue down to Chittern. Go straight through then carry on across the plain... at the major t junction past the pig farm turn right in to Shrewton. Then carry on down to the 303.
Great road.
Not sure of the best way once you leave the 303.

Off the A303, Winchester - 272 to Petersfield, short A3 trip to Bordon?
Looks like all the good ones have been recommended - and a combination I would go for would be:Across the plain to Shrewton
Down to Stonehenge
Along the A303 East to the Marlborough / Tidworth turn
Turn right (NOT towards Tidworth) and then left at the 1st roundabout (up the hill)
Take 1st right to Grateley
Into Grateley, over rail bridge then left after about 200 yds to Middle Wallop
At Middle Wallop turn right then immediate left towards Danebury Hill Fort
Past the hill fort, then the road comes to the A30 (CAREFUL AT THIS JUNCTION!)
Turn left into Stockbridge
Follow A30 all the way to Sutton Scotney
Turn right at roundabout and follow old Winchester Road (parallel to A34)
Join A34 at Worthy (?)
At end of A34 in Winchester, follow signs to A272 Petersfield
Take A272 all the way to Petersfield (Awesome road on a bike!!! and great in a car)
After that, I haven't gpt a clue :-)

Not quite all the way. Turn left at this roundaboutKernow67 said:

Left at this one. Turn right here. First exit at this roundabout. Or just stay on the A3 until the Longmoor exit here.Edited by Red Devil on Sunday 28th April 13:57
I missed the updates to my own thread! What a fail!
Thanks for all the suggestions I actually tried all of these routes in the couple of weeks I was making the trip and they were all pretty amazing! I am still getting used to a car that actually handles! The road through chittern(?) is a lovely road. Also enjoy the a339 between Alton and Basingstoke which is a road I remember from when I was a biker and based At bordon!
